NEXTDC is hiring a 24/7 Data Centre Technician in West Footscray, a full-time onsite role ideal for someone with a mechanical or electrical background. You’ll receive comprehensive on-the-job training across cooling systems (CRACs, chillers, HVAC), electrical distribution, cabling, building monitoring and fire protection, with a strong emphasis on hands-on facility operations rather than IT. Expect a 4-5-5 rotating roster (days 7am-7pm, nights 7pm-7am), occasional inter-site travel, and vendor coordination to maintain uptime. Candidate profile: engineering background or trade cert, solid troubleshooting and customer-focused communication, and Australian Citizenship for security clearance. We are currently looking for a Trades or Technical individual, ideally with a mechanical background, to join us in the role of Data Centre Technician working within our facilities team operating on a 24/7 basis.
Within this role, we will provide full on-the-job training to bring you up to speed on all aspects of data centre facility management and critical infrastructure. This includes hands-on exposure to mechanical systems such as cooling infrastructure (CRAC units, chillers, HVAC systems), electrical distribution systems, cabling infrastructure, building monitoring systems, and fire protection systems.
This role is ideally suited to someone with a mechanical or electrical background who is looking to apply their skills within a mission-critical data centre environment. Refrigeration Mechanics, Mechanical Plumbers & Mechanical Engineers encouraged to apply.
The successful candidate will be required to work a 4 – 5 – 5 rotating shift roster with day shifts from 7am - 7pm and night shifts from 7pm - 7am.
