The Opportunity

 

Veolia is seeking a Second in Charge for our Medical and Hazardous Waste Operations at our Kilburn and Dry Creek, South Australia facilities. You'll provide management and leadership across our liquid treatment plant and CDS, overseeing both treatment and collection activities.

 

In this role, you'll ensure efficient, compliant operations against our licenses, drive continuous improvement for market competitiveness, and maintain a chain of responsibility for transport and regulatory compliance.

What you'll be responsible for

 

  • Contractor Management: Organize, monitor, and manage onsite contractors to ensure safe and efficient outcomes.

  • Compliance: Ensure full adherence to all relevant licences and regulations, including Safework, DAFF biosecurity, and EPA.

  • Performance Management: Oversee the formal performance management of workers.

  • Team Development: Focus on upskilling supervisors, managers, and direct reports to support succession planning and career progression.

  • Continuous Improvement: Drive improvements across the treatment plants regarding safety, operational efficiency, and financial margins.

  • External Relations: Maintain effective relationships with external suppliers and contractors.

  • Safety and Inspection: Record and investigate incidents, conduct workplace inspections, and maintain a safe, clean working environment.

  • Stakeholder Engagement: Act as the primary point of contact for customers, the VLO, and internal stakeholders to ensure effective service delivery and issue resolution.

What you'll need to be successful



  • Frontline management training or equivalent practical supervisory experience

  • Strong attention to detail with commitment to accuracy and compliance

  • Excellent communication and organisational skill

  • Proactive problem-solving and personnel management abilities

  • Genuine commitment to safety, team wellbeing, and environmental responsibility

  • Confined space entry and working at heights certification ( desirable) 

  • Experience in the waste management industry ( desirable) 

  • Experience working with hazardous chemicals ( desirable) 

  • Proficiency with SAP, Salesforce, or similar systems
