The Strategic Account Manager (SAM) territory is comprised of majority Strategic customers as per the PS Customer Stratification model. In-field presence and interstate business travel is a strong expectation of the role.

 

Your Role:
As a Bioprocessing SAM, you will be responsible for driving growth and protecting revenue across a strategic portfolio of biotechnology and pharmaceutical accounts in the ANZ region. You will develop deep relationships with key stakeholders, understand customer needs, and deliver high-value solutions that advance customer success and Merck KGaA’s market leadership.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Sales Growth & Strategic Execution
    • Achieve sales targets within the assigned territory through proactive execution of sales strategies and value-based selling.
    • Defend and grow account sales across customer segments using solution selling and a strong understanding of the bioprocessing industry.
    • Submit accurate sales forecasts and pipeline updates in a timely manner.

 

  • Customer Engagement & Account Development
    • Build and maintain strong relationships with key decision makers, influencers, and opinion leaders in biotechnology and pharmaceutical accounts.
    • Develop and manage account profiles to identify growth opportunities and align with global account strategies.
    • Actively manage the customer journey using digital and in-person touchpoints to enhance engagement and deliver solutions that meet evolving needs.

 

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration & Operational Excellence
    • Collaborate closely with internal teams including Marketing, Technical Specialists, Customer Service, Distribution, and Supply Chain to ensure seamless service and solution delivery.
    • Prepare and coordinate commercial proposals, quotations, and technical documents tailored to customer requirements.
    • Support inventory planning and product delivery schedules for key customers.
  • Market Presence & Thought Leadership
    • Participate in industry trade shows, seminars, and conferences to promote Merck KGaA’s capabilities and stay abreast of market trends.
    • Leverage digital tools, CRM platforms, and market intelligence to drive informed decision-making and customer engagement.

 

Who You Are:


You are a driven and adaptable sales professional with strong scientific foundations and a passion for delivering value in the bioprocessing, life science, or pharmaceutical industry. You thrive in a dynamic, customer-facing role and bring a blend of technical acumen, commercial savvy, and collaborative spirit to everything you do.

 

  • A self-starter with 1–3 years of relevant experience in sales or technical sales, ideally in biomanufacturing, pharmaceuticals, or life sciences.
  • Hold a degree in Science or Engineering, specialising in Biotech, Life Sciences, or Chemistry.
  • Demonstrated success in complex solution-based selling, project management, and account development within a business-to-business setting.
  • Skilled in influencing and building relationships across internal and external stakeholders, including cross-functional and global teams.
  • Strong communicator with excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and presentation skills.
  • Tech-savvy and comfortable using CRM systems, digital tools, and data analytics to drive performance and insights.
  • Organized and efficient, with strong time management and business acumen.
  • Highly collaborative, agile, and growth-oriented, with the ability to adapt and thrive in a fast-paced, matrixed environment.
  • Possess or willing to obtain a valid driver’s license and have access to a personal vehicle for customer visits.
