Responsible for overseeing and coordinating the operation of Allied Health Services, including the day-to-day operations of the allied health care departments and ensuring coordination with relevant clinical and nursing departments.

Provide leadership and act as a role model for Allied Health Department employees.

 

Support in the development of any Allied Health Services departmental annual business plan.

 

Be involved in developing and implementing cost improvement schemes through service redesign, cash allocation and incom,e generation schemes, and ensure that service delivery is managed within financial and budgetary constraints. 

 

Develop and promote a business plan with other stakeholders that improve patient outcomes - including responsibility for the development of Allied Health management policies, protocols, initiatives & guidance and implementation of regulatory requirements. Monitor response to identified issues and facilitate resolution through the relevant organizations as required.

 

Oversee the department’s service areas performance and productivity as well as staff performance.

 

Monitor the cost of materials and work with the procurement department in the competitive quotation/tendering process to ensure the most cost-effective purchasing of Medical Equipment and consumables.

 

Oversee the development and implement the Allied Health department’s policies.

 

Coordinate with clinical and other colleagues any needed service expansion and enhancements in line with the department’s overall vision and organization.

 

Assess the healthcare environment, and identify opportunities to improve the areas of Allied Health. 

 

Responsible for developing plans for the continued operation of Allied Health Services systems, during emergencies and disasters.

 

Conduct thorough workforce planning exercises assuring adequate and efficient staffing of the various services and effective allocation of resources throughout the departments. This will apply to clinical and administartive staff allocated to the department. This will aslo be aligned with the implementation of skill retention schemes.

 

Manage the department including objective setting, appraisals, training, annual leave, supervision and reflective practice.

 

Conduct regular department meetings with all Sections fall under Allied Health Services.

 

Ensure that Allied Health  department staff practice in accordance with technical, regulatory and professional standards of practice.

 

Responsible for supporting the recruitment of  staff, inducting, training and managing staff in accordance with policies and procedures. 

 

Set a sustainable program targeting the continous professional development of Allied Health staff, residents, interns, developees and students amongst others.

 

Participate actively in meetings representing the Allied Health Services. Ensure appropriate representation from the department at all multi-disciplinary levels.

 

Delegate tasks whenever necessary, distributing responsibility for operational management of the department.

 

Ensure close collaboration with other stakeholders to optimize patient outcomes.

 

Ensure professional and effective communication is maintained between staff, patients and internal & external stakeholders.

 

Technical

Provide advice and respond to queries in relation to Allied Health Management across the organization.

 

Provide professional leadership for Allied Health management processes for the organization. 

 

Provide advice and leadership for the investigation for Allied Health related significant events, complaints and queries. Manage complex facts or situations requiring analysis, interpretation, management of conflicting views/opinions and comparison of options. Ensure systems are in place to respond in an appropriate and timely manner.

 

Perform other related duties as assigned.

 

Quality & Regulatory

Ensure the safe and competent use of all department equipment, patient appliances and aids used by patients. 

 

Ensure that all incidents and complaints in the department are reported immediately for appropriate action to be taken, as per organization’s policy.

 

Ensure departments and staff  comply with regulations for environmental safety and infection control, amongst others.

 

Ensure patient confidentiality.

 

Review and utilize  trended or analyzed data provided from different stakeholders to develop departmental quality improvement plans to enhance the quality of services.

 

Ensure internal and external quality controls in the department are within the required parameters.

 

Develop and ensure implementation of policies that guide the Allied Health and use process based on sectional requirements.

 

Oversee compliance of the departments with all regulatory, safety and quality control programs and procedures, including but not limited to regulatory licensing, accreditation standards, organizational policies and procedures, etc.

 

Education

Participate in department programs/committees, various Hospital committees and staff meetings, as assigned.

 

Participate in the orientation of new employees.

 

Complete and maintain all regulatory requirements including licensure and certification and other mandatory training within established time frames.

 

Ensure appropriate internal and external sharing of information based on governing policies and procedures.

 

Ensure all members of the department receive adequate clinical supervision as required for their professional and technical development.

 

Maintain professional knowledge by attending lectures, seminars or on-line education units.

 

Keep abreast of all developments pertaining to Allied Health care and other specialty related matters.
