The Division of Hospital Medicine at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, Cincinnati, Ohio, is seeking two (2) Internal Medicine physicians at either the Assistant or Associate Professor level (title commensurate with credentials) for our inpatient services at UC Medical Center with teaching activities in the Department’s Graduate Medical Education program.

 

Individuals in this role will provide direct patient care to inpatients at UC Medical Center and teach on the General Internal Medicine ward teams and Internal Medicine consult service. This may include swing shifts and overnight coverage to inpatients at UC Medical Center. Opportunities for scheduling flexibility, including preferred shifts, will increase with demonstrated performance, length of service, and experience.

Essential Functions

  • Admit and workup new medical patients.
  • Monitor progress of admitted patients, adjust therapeutic interventions, and engage in specialty consultation when appropriate.
  • Serve as attending on traditional residency ward teams and the medical consultation service, which includes teaching activities with resident physicians and medical students.
  • Serve as attending on direct care services, both with and without trainees, which includes teaching activities with resident physicians and medical students.
  • Oversee Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) assigned to Short Stay Unit.
  • Perform invasive diagnostic procedures to include lumbar puncture, paracentesis, and others as competency permits.
  • Lead “rapid response” and “code blue” teams.
  • Participate in the quality improvement framework of the medical units.
  • Strive to improve clinical processes, as well as patient care, at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center.
  • Regularly attend section/divisional/departmental meetings and educational events, as assigned.
  • Collaborate with researchers in the Center for Clinical Effectiveness and Center for Health Informatics.

Minimum Requirements

Must have all the following prior to effective date of appointment:

  • Medical degree (MD or DO).
  • Completion of a three-year internal medicine residency.
  • Licensure by the State of Ohio Medical Board.
