BESS Technical Lead Engineer (system design & integration) (m/f/d) for Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)

Overview

An Electrical Engineer for Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) is responsible for the planning, development, implementation, and maintenance of electrical energy storage solutions. These systems play a central role in integrating renewable energy sources, stabilizing the grid, and improving the efficiency of modern power networks. The electrical engineer works in interdisciplinary teams and contributes significantly to the energy transition and sustainable energy supply.

Main Responsibilities

·         Design, configuration, and optimization of BESS systems at system and component level

·         Preparation of technical specifications

·         Selection of suitable battery technologies and electrical components

·         Support integration of BESS into existing power grids in Germany, including communication with control systems and protection technology

·         Support during commissioning, functional tests, and on-site acceptance procedures

·         Collaboration with project managers and other departments

·         Compliance with and implementation of standards, safety, and environmental regulations

·         Creation and maintenance of technical documentation

·         Commissioning Support

Requirements

·         Completed degree in electrical engineering, energy engineering, or a comparable field

·         Several years of professional experience in the field of energy storage systems, high-voltage systems, grid connections, ideally with a focus on BESS

·         Solid knowledge of battery storage technologies (e.g. lithium-ion, NMC, etc.)

·         Experience with electrical HV and MV-Systems, protection systems, power electronics, and grid connection requirements (VDE AR-N 4120 and 4130)

·         Knowledge in the field of renewable energies and their grid integration

·         Knowledge of relevant standards (e.g. VDE, IEC, DIN)

·         Analytical thinking, problem-solving ability, and team orientation

·         Good German and English language skills, written and spoken

·         Willingness to travel occasionally

Desirable Additional Qualifications

·         Experience in project management or interface functions

·         Knowledge in the field of renewable energies and their grid integration

·         Experience with control and automation technology
