Masdar is seeking an experienced Biodiversity Manager to lead biodiversity work for the Zarafshan WPP Project, including the Biodiversity Management Plan, Biodiversity Action Plan for sensitive species, bird offset planning, and the management of external surveys. The role also covers tender support and monitoring programs for bird and bat populations near the site, plus technical advice on the Identiflight SoD system. Based in Abu Dhabi or Zarafshan, Uzbekistan, this is a full-time onsite position. Ideal candidates have eight to ten years in biodiversity management, with wind power bird risk experience, a Master’s in Biology or Ecology, and familiarity with IFC, EBRD or ADB requirements and PCFM, plus strong stakeholder skills.

Job Description

We at Masdar is currently seeking an experienced Biodiversity Expert who will be responsible to lead biodiversity work across all workstreams for Zarafshan WPP Project, including the management of biodiversity management and optimization of Shutdown on Demand, BMP and BAP implementation, management of grievances related to
biodiversity.

The expert will support Masdar’s portfolio management assets on biodiversity aspects, as required, and participate in corporate biodiversity initiatives.

The role can be based in Abu Dhabi or Zarafshan (Uzbekistan).

Responsibilities not limited to;

  • Lead the implementation of the Biodiversity Management Plan in line with standards.
  • Lead the preparation, implementation, monitoring and reporting on the Biodiversity Action Plan for
    plant species trigging critical habitat criteria.
  • Lead the preparation, implementation, monitoring and reporting on the birds offset plan if there are
    fatalities of target species.
  • Management the biodiversity surveys to be undertaken by external consultants.
  • Prepare the ToR, lead the technical aspects of the tender process and monitor the execution of the
    monitoring surveys for bird populations in the IBA and bat population near the site.
  • Analyse the survey results and propose updates for the Biodiversity Management Plan if required.
  • Provide technical ornithological advice on the installation, configuration and maintenance of the Identiflight SoD system.

Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in Biology or Ecology or equivalent
• Master’s degree in Biology, Ecology or relevant subdisciplines (e.g. terrestrial ecology, ornithology, etc)
• Membership in a recognized national or international organizations is an advantage
Preferred Experience:
• 8-10 years in biodiversity management (consultancy or project) including at least 3 years in the
management of risks of wind power projects on birds
• Specific experience on BMPs, BAPs, offsets, SoD and PCFM to be highly valued
• At least 3 years of experience in the management of biodiversity following the specific requirements of
IFC, EBRD, ADB
