We are seeking a detail-oriented and efficient Building Maintenance Carpenter to join our team in Coolaroo, Australia. In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining, repairing, and improving building structures and components. You will work systematically to ensure all carpentry and maintenance tasks are completed to the highest standards, contributing to the safety and functionality of our facilities.

What you’ll be doing:

• Undertake both planned and reactive maintenance at Council facilities.
• Prioritise and complete maintenance requests daily to ensure safety and security of occupants is not compromised.
• Engage and supervise contractors for minor works in accordance with established procedures, level of delegation and in accordance with Council Policy.
• Initiate and issue quotation documentation, in accordance with Council Policy.
• Perform routine inspections of building structures, fixtures, and components to identify maintenance needs and potential issues
• Execute carpentry repairs and installations, including framing, finishing, and structural modifications
• Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities, repairs completed, and materials used
• Diagnose and troubleshoot carpentry-related problems in a methodical and organized manner
• Prepare and maintain tools and equipment in proper working condition
• Follow all safety protocols and building codes to ensure compliance and workplace safety
• Collaborate with other maintenance staff and contractors to coordinate repairs and improvements
• Perform preventive maintenance tasks to minimize future damage and extend the lifespan of building components
• Respond promptly to maintenance requests and emergency repair situations
• Maintain organized work areas and ensure proper disposal of waste materials
• Supervise minor works carried out by external contractors
• Perform duties in accordance with the Workplace Health and Safety Act, Regulations, Codes of Practice and Council safety policies and procedures.

The skills and experience you’ll bring to the role:

• Demonstrated skills in carpentry and joinery, cabinetmaking and related building maintenance practices.
• Knowledge and skills in the practical application of the use and maintenance of tools and machinery.
• Demonstrated knowledge of safe work practices.
• Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment or individually.
• Demonstrated ability to discuss, negotiate and resolve problems.
• Knowledge of Local Government procedures, regulations, policies, and codes of practice pertaining to building maintenance works, manual handling practices and techniques and Occupational Health & safety.
• Completion of a recognised and accredited 4-year full time carpentry or building construction apprenticeship.
• Experience in supervision of building maintenance works.
• Experience with preventive maintenance planning and scheduling
• Familiarity with building management systems and maintenance software
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Experience working in a team environment within facility management
• Relevant trade certifications or licenses in carpentry or building maintenance
• Experience with various finishing techniques and aesthetic improvements

Required Certifications & Qualifications 

• Completion of TAFE accredited carpentry or building construction qualification course as recognised by the State Training Board.
• Current Driver’s Licence.
