The Opportunity

Our Australian Steel Markets business is looking for a Business Development Manager to join our Building Markets team, based in Chullora NSW. This is an opportunity where your impact is felt through the relationships you build and the momentum you create in market. Within a knowledgeable and supportive team, you’ll deepen your commercial capability, strengthen your network and contribute directly to BlueScope’s position in the residential market. In this hybrid role, you’ll work four days in the office and one day from home, with free on-site parking, 14% super and 15% annual bonus eligibility as part of the package.

As a Business Development Manager, you’ll focus on growing BlueScope’s position in the residential segment through strong commercial thinking, trusted relationships and consistent market presence. Your work centres on winning new business, growing existing relationships and helping more customers see the value of specifying COLORBOND® steel and TRUECORE® steel across residential projects. You’ll also work across the broader residential building and aged care sectors, with a strong focus on home builders, developers and medium density builders.

What Will You Do?

You’ll build and manage relationships across the residential segment in NSW, with an initial focus on light gauge steel framing and metal roofing. There’s a strong sense of autonomy in how you build your customer base, combined with clear expectations around growth and outcomes. You will:

• build and grow relationships with residential builders, developers and medium density builders, engaging across key areas such as design, procurement, commercial and construction teams
• identify and target new customers, understand key influencers and develop focused call plans
• work with customers and channel partners to increase specification of COLORBOND® steel and TRUECORE® steel and support growth aligned to strategy
• facilitate supply and collaboration across partners while strengthening product positioning and strategic relationships
• coordinate customer support including promotional, technical and training activity
• contribute to growth through builder targets, product targets and pipeline development
• act as a trusted advisor, delivering presentations that build product understanding and market awareness

You’re someone who is comfortable in the residential construction space and enjoys building long-term, trusted relationships. You likely enjoy being in market, staying connected with customers and building a strong reputation over time. You’ll bring:

• strong commercial judgement and confidence in B2B customer-facing environments
• relationship-building, negotiation and influencing capability across multiple levels
• building construction or design knowledge, or an interest in developing this
• a natural ability to understand channels, connect people and drive outcomes
• well-developed planning, coordination and time management skills
• clear communication and confident presentation skills across a range of settings
