Ampol is looking for a Capital Programs Analyst to join its Retail Construction team in Alexandria, AU, with a flexible hybrid work setup. The role sits inside a national capital program that sits at around $100 million in annual investments, so you’ll be tackling high-impact projects across Ampol’s extensive network. Ampol positions itself as a company that powers progress for customers, communities and people, with a strong focus on growth opportunities, and a workplace where inclusion and respect are valued.

As the Capital Programs Analyst, you’ll translate complex project and financial data into clear, actionable insights that help leaders decide where to invest. You’ll work closely with stakeholders across the business, turning information into guidance that drives strong commercial results. Collaboration across Retail and Engineering is a key part of the job, identifying opportunities and supporting capital allocation to maximise value for the company.

The right candidate will enjoy a mix of data governance, reporting, and cross-team collaboration, and will appreciate Ampol’s focus on a welcoming, supportive workplace. The role is based in Alexandria and offers a hybrid work arrangement, balancing time on site with time remote where it adds value.

A day in the life of a capital programs analyst

Your daily work centers on keeping construction program data accurate and up to date in the project management tool, partnering with Project Managers to ensure details stay current and timely updates go out as needed.

You’ll design and maintain dashboards and data visualisations to support progress updates for the leadership team, using Power BI to turn numbers into clear stories. In parallel, you’ll help manage capital allocations for the year by summarising allocations and expenditure requests, tracking progress, and producing monthly forecasts with commentary on movements in the program. You’ll also contribute to the preparation of the annual capital plan and coordinate with Retail Commercial Finance on a regular basis.

What you’ll need to join the team

  • A degree in Commerce, Business, Construction Management or a related field
  • Significant experience in roles such as Analyst, Project Coordinator or Assistant Project Manager
  • Experience building a business case and presenting it to senior management
  • Experience creating and analysing commercial reports for a range of stakeholders
  • Comfort with pulling data from a data warehouse to support analysis

There are no additional nice-to-haves listed beyond these essentials.

Compensation, perks and how you’ll work

Ampol describes its total remuneration as competitive, spanning base salary, a car allowance, a company performance incentive, employee share offers, and a 25% discount on fuel for two privately used cars. The company supports hybrid work arrangements, giving teams flexibility to split time between remote work and office collaboration when it adds value. There is also remote international work support for up to three months, with a condition that five days of paid leave are provided for every 30 days spent remote. Beyond this, Ampol offers a range of benefits designed to support development, recognition and work-life balance, including internal recognition programs, LinkedIn Learning and other training options, a Baby Care Package, novated lease options, participation in the Employee Share Scheme, flexible leave options and bonus days, plus a paid day for volunteering with Ampol Foundation partners.

The role is based in Alexandria, AU, and Ampol emphasises an equal opportunity workplace. The company encourages applicants from diverse backgrounds and communities to apply.

Guidance for standing out in this Ampol role

Showcase your capital program experience at the top of your resume, with a clear emphasis on your work managing annual capex allocations, forecasting, and annual planning processes. Include a concrete example of turning project and finance data into a decision-ready insight that influenced an investment decision, and highlight your use of Power BI to present progress to leadership.

When you describe your must-have skills, place a spotlight on your work with data warehouses and extracting data to support analysis, plus your comfort presenting business cases to senior leaders. Be prepared to discuss how you’ve collaborated with Retail and Engineering teams to identify opportunities and to support capital allocation decisions that drive value.

In interviews, expect questions about how you translate complex datasets into actionable recommendations and how you’ve previously handled capital forecasting and reporting. A smart question to ask could be how Ampol balances capital investments across Retail and Engineering and how those decisions align with improvements in network performance or customer experience.
