Casual Night Support at the University of Auckland offers night shifts to cover shortages and support residents. You’ll be the first contact for pastoral care, lead on health safety and security, and provide first aid when needed, while handling routine administration between incidents. The role suits those with pastoral care or student services experience who can work independently with remote team support, and who are physically fit and able to meet NZ police vetting and vulnerable children’s act requirements. Training is paid and covers first aid and mental health event management. Apply online by 30 June 2026 with a cover letter and CV; for a confidential chat contact Stanislav Ivanov.
We have a Casual (varied hours) vacancy for a Student Accommodation Night Support (known internally as Night Supervisors) to join our team, working night shifts on a rostered, on-demand basis. This vital role ensures our students feel safe, supported, and part of a positive community.
You will provide cover when staff members are not available for their shifts and be the first point of contact for residents needing pastoral care or well-being support during the night. This isn’t a traditional security role; you’ll lead on health, safety, and security, making sure protocols are followed, emergencies are handled, and first aid is provided when needed.
This is a great opportunity to connect with our Student Residents team and build the foundations for future fixed term or permanent work. When not responding to incidents or patrolling, you’ll be responsible for completing general administrative and coordination tasks.
Our Student accommodation team provides housing for over 4,500 students across a variety of accommodation styles, from first-year halls to self-catered apartments for senior students. We aim to create a safe, supportive, and enjoyable community that feels like home for our students.
This is a Casual position. Hours of work will vary week to week and can be rostered anytime between 11:00 pm and 9:00 am, Monday to Sunday.
The hourly rate for the role is between $30 and $32 per hour, negotiable depending on skills and experience.
Training
We provide training, including first aid, mental health event management, and basic security. This paid training will take place during regular business hours before your night shifts begin.
He kōrero mōu | About you
We’re looking for candidates who are empathetic, passionate about student well-being, and capable of handling challenging situations independently. While you’ll be working alone during shifts, remote support from the team will be available.
This role is ideal for those night shifts to fit their lifestyle, and we’ve found it to be a great fit for people with experience in pastoral care, student-focused roles, mental health services, social work, youth work, residential care or hospitality, or even those considering a career as a police officer.
