BCPS is seeking a Child Care Monitor I to support the Virginia Shuman Young Elementary on-site Before and After School Care program in Fort Lauderdale. The role focuses on delivering planned activities, directly supervising children, maintaining a safe environment, using non punitive behavior guidance, evaluating activities, assisting with equipment and supplies, reporting incidents, and building cooperative relationships with staff and parents while upholding the district’s equal employment policies. Requirements include a high school diploma or GED, prior volunteer or work experience with school-age children, and within the first year completing BASCC Components I and II or the My Florida SNP, UDAP, and SAP modules, plus 10 hours BASCC training annually; computer skills and 18+. To conduct the planned activities for the Before and After School Care on-site program so that it is a safe and enriching program for the participants.
The Child Care Monitor I shall carry out the performance responsibilities listed below.
• Adhere to the Before and After School Child Care Quality Standards.
• Directly supervise or facilitate activities or areas to provide appropriate experiences for children.
• Set and maintain appropriate standards for children’s behavior using non-punitive methods, which teach self-discipline while supporting children’s self-esteem.
• Provide direct supervision of play areas and children’s activities to ensure safety and quality.
• Participate in evaluating activities and scheduling for children.
• Assist in procuring equipment and cleanup of supplies for planned activities.
• Report incidents to appropriate personnel.
• Provide timely input on needed program supplies and materials.
• Maintain a cooperative relationship with all other staff members.
• Interact positively with all parents and refer questions and concerns to the Child Care Supervisor as appropriate.
• Perform and promote all activities in compliance with the equal employment and non-discrimination policies of The School Board of Broward County, Florida.
• Participate in training programs offered to enhance the individual skills and proficiency related to job responsibilities.
• Review current developments, literature and technical sources of information related to job responsibilities.
• Ensure adherence to safety rules and procedures.
• Follow federal and state, as well as School Board policies.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor or designee.

Medium work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 10 pounds of force as needed to move objects.
Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the District's approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the School Board.
