Aspen Medical is looking for a Clinical Psychologist to support the United Nations Office in Somalia (UNSOS). This onsite, full-time role focuses on delivering high-quality mental health care to patients, including thorough assessments, accurate diagnoses, and evidence-based therapeutic interventions. The position sits within a humanitarian setting, with an emphasis on clinical governance, patient safety, and continuous improvement of care.
The role is anchored in UNSOS operations in Somalia, where a multidisciplinary team relies on solid mental health expertise to address a wide range of psychological needs. It’s a good fit for clinicians who value careful clinical oversight, culturally aware practice, and collaboration with other health professionals to ensure holistic patient care. The right candidate will be comfortable working in a demanding environment and dedicated to upholding international guidelines and local policies.
A day in the life in this mission setting centers on hands-on clinical work, governance and collaboration. You’ll perform comprehensive assessments using interviews, observations, and standardized tests to build a clear understanding of each patient’s mental health profile. Treatment plans are then tailored to the person, combining evidence-based approaches with individual needs, and you’ll document every step in confidential records that meet ethical and legal standards. Through both one-on-one and group sessions, you’ll apply therapies such as CBT, DBT, or other modalities, and you’ll coordinate care with nurses, physicians, social workers, and other specialists to ensure seamless, integrated support. Regular case reviews, audits, and clinical meetings help maintain high standards, while you respond to crises and emergencies with established protocols to protect patient safety. The work also covers staff and patient education, program development, and involvement in quality-improvement efforts that drive better outcomes. You’ll stay current with the latest research and guidelines, contribute to policy development, and participate in interdisciplinary discussions to keep services aligned with international best practices and WHO standards. Cultural sensitivity and tailored interventions are essential, as is adherence to ethical guidelines and Aspen Medical’s social purpose and B Corp principles.
