Huawei Canada is hiring a co op Engineer for AI Tooling & Agent in Waterloo to design and optimize coding agents and workflows using LangGraph, Claude Code, Codex and Antigravity. You’ll stay ahead of LLM advances, build evaluation systems for code and reasoning accuracy, and craft architectures with vector databases and AI Agents. The ideal candidate is an undergraduate CS student fluent in Python, TypeScript, and Node.js, a super user of AI tools who can move from requirements to deployment quickly, and who understands token limits, hallucinations, RAG and semantic search. About the job:
Design, build, and optimize AI Coding Agents capable of autonomous planning, code writing, and debugging.
Proficiently utilize and deeply integrate cutting-edge AI coding tools such as Claude Code, Codex, and Antigravity, exploring their limits in complex engineering scenarios.
Design complex task workflows (Agentic Workflows) based on LangGraph or similar agent frameworks to address long-chain task automation.
Track the latest advancements in the LLM field and quickly translate them into usable tool features.
Establish an evaluation system for AI tools to improve the accuracy of agents in code generation and logical reasoning.
The total target annual compensation (based on 2,080 hours per year) ranges from $58,000 to $104,000 depending on education, experience, and demonstrated expertise.
About the ideal candidate:
An undergraduate student majoring in Computer Science (CS), with proficiency in programming languages such as Python, TypeScript, and Node.js.
You must be a "super user" of AI programming tools. You should be able to demonstrate how to complete the process from requirement to deployment in an extremely short time using tools like Claude Code.
Have a deep understanding of the operational mechanisms of large language models (LLMs), including token limits, hallucination handling, RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation), and the principles of semantic search.
Possess good code craftsmanship, able to write code architectures that are easy for AI to understand and maintain. Be familiar with technical components such as vector databases, AI Agents, and Skills.
Be able to adapt to the daily update pace of technological changes in the AI field, with a strong sense of self-motivation and curiosity.
