Concept Designer - 12 month fixed term

Weta Workshop is seeking a Concept Designer for a fixed term 12 month project, full time onsite in Miramar, Wellington. You’ll deliver conceptual, illustrative and design solutions, work with the Art Director and Creative Leads to realise the project vision, and brainstorm with vendor and client teams. Applicants should have at least 2 years of design experience, a strong portfolio, excellent Photoshop and 3D skills (Blender, ZBrush, Modo, 3DS Max or Maya), and a solid understanding of the design process. Prepare a portfolio showing concept thinking and research, tailor it to the project, and expect a Ministry of Justice check; applications close 1 March 2026; remuneration 33 to 35 per hour depending on experience.

In this role you'll: 

• Deliver high quality solutions to varying conceptual, illustrative, render, graphical and design-related challenges for our project.
• Work closely with Art Director and Creative Leads to execute project vision.
• Develop conceptual thinking, art and design, and research skills.
• Actively participate in blue-sky and concept design brainstorms and design processes.
• Integration with vendor and client teams.

We're looking for someone with:

• At least 2 years relevant design experience with art, design and research skills (please include a portfolio of your work when you apply)
• Excellent Photoshop and 3D design skills (eg Blender, Zbrush, Modo, 3DS Max, Maya)
• An understanding of the design process

Additional Information

• This role is fixed term, for 6 months, based in Miramar, Wellington.
• It is full-time, 40 hours per week Monday to Friday.
• The remuneration for this role is dependent on experience, with the range from $33-35 per hour (or equivalent, pro-rated salary).
