Your role:

Are you a dynamic legal professional looking to build a career beyond traditional practice? Are you a strategic thinker with an entrepreneurial mindset, eager to apply your legal skills in a fast-paced, technology-driven environment?

As Corporate Counsel, you will play an active role in supporting complex commercial, regulatory, and operational matters across the business. You will advise on emerging issues at the intersection of technology and law, including artificial intelligence, data protection, cybersecurity, privacy, surveillance, and data sovereignty.

In this role, you will contribute to key business initiatives, not solely legal tasks. You will support the development of new partnerships and distribution channels, and advise on matters relating to compliance archiving, data protection, eDiscovery, and business continuity within highly regulated industries.

You will work closely with cross-functional stakeholders and collaborate with experienced in-house counsel, gaining exposure to a broad range of commercial and strategic initiatives. This position offers meaningful responsibility, mentorship, and the opportunity to develop both your legal expertise and business acumen.

 Your responsibilities:

  • Commercial Transactions: Review, negotiate, and draft customer and vendor agreements, policies, and partner agreements, and lead complex business and legal negotiations.
  • Strategic Advisory: Advise internal teams on a broad spectrum of legal and business issues, including data protection, sovereignty requirements, contractual commitments, industry-specific compliance, intellectual property rights, and employment/human resources matters.
  • Revenue & Retention: Provide legal support related to customer retention, renewals, and other related legal/accounting issues to ensure seamless revenue recognition.
  • Go-to-Market & Innovation: Provide business support in the development of sales, marketing, and business development strategies, new go-to-market initiatives, and product design (including advising on AI governance and regulatory readiness) to help maximize revenue.
  • Operational Support: Provide operational support with internal policies, communications, training, and education on Global Relay services and general governance.
  • Compliance & Risk: Provide support relating to compliance and eDiscovery, as well as the investigation of potential security and privacy incidents, analyzing legal and regulatory responsibilities, and providing guidance on mitigation and resolution efforts.
  • Business Partnership: Build strong cross-functional relationships to provide practical and strategic advice to assist the business in meeting its commercial objectives.
  • Legal Judgment: Advise on recommended courses of action and legal risk, with the ability to judge when to escalate identified issues as appropriate.

About you:

You are a sharp, commercially minded lawyer ready to navigate the intersection of law and cutting-edge technology. You thrive in fast-paced environments, balancing a "roll-up-your-sleeves" attitude with the strategic mindset needed to act as a trusted advisor to global business partners.

What you’ll bring to the team:

  • Legal Expertise: UK-qualified solicitor with 2–10 years of PQE, ideally gained within a leading law firm’s commercial practice or an in-house SaaS environment.
  • Commercial Precision: Strong drafting and negotiation skills across a wide range of commercial and technology agreements, including master terms of services, data processing addenda, information security documents, and other types of transactional agreements
  • Regulatory Fluency: Understanding of the global privacy and security landscape, including GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, PIPEDA, and HIPAA. You stay ahead of the curve on emerging frameworks like DORA and the EU AI Act.
  • Industry Sophistication: Experience working on cybersecurity and privacy-related transactional matters across North America and Europe with highly regulated customers, especially those in the financial services and life sciences industries
  • Cross-Functional Advisor: Ability to maintain strong working relationships with a variety of internal clients and business partners from a variety of functions across Global Relay’s offices.
  • Operational Agility: Ability to organize, prioritize, and manage multiple competing deadlines with strong organizational skills and the ability to be flexible and self-directed in a fast-paced environment with limited direction.
  • Collaboration & Culture: Confident, collaborative teammate who brings credibility and a sense of humour to the office. You are genuinely curious about the future of AI, data, and privacy.

Work Arrangement:

This role is hybrid with a minimum of three days at our offices in London (near St Paul’s)

Global Relay is unable to offer visa sponsorship for this position. Candidates must have the right to work in the UK at the time of application.
