Akaysha Energy is seeking a Data Engineer to own and optimize its data platform within Corporate IT, delivering data transformation that fuels sharing, efficiency, and decision making across a 30GWh+ portfolio and a global team. The role centers on Azure based data solutions (Databricks, ADLS, Synapse, SQL Database, Data Factory), strong SQL and Python for automation, PowerShell for resource management, and governance through Purview with RBAC and encryption. You’ll work closely with analytics to supply structured datasets, champion best practices, automate ML workflows, and ensure data quality and regulatory compliance. It’s a hybrid role in Melbourne HQ or Sydney. As a Data Engineer, you’ll be joining the Corporate IT team responsible for delivering Akaysha’s data transformation; a key piece of work designed to positively impact data sharing and efficiency across the entire organisation.  

Building on this momentum and post implementation phase, this position will own and manage all data instances across Akaysha and is responsible for efficient data collection, transformation and storage, working closely with stakeholders and the technology team to ensure high-quality, accessible solutions that support Akaysha Energy’s objectives and compliance requirements. 

You'll architect, build and maintain a robust data platform that delivers reliable, scalable and secure datasets for analytics, reporting and business decision-making by: 

  • Design, implement, and optimise company processes; build and maintain data storage solutions.
  • Ensure data accuracy, consistency, compliance, and optimise system performance to meet regulatory standards.   
  • Work closely with analytics teams to provide structured datasets and champion best practices and innovation. 
  • Implement automation, integrate ML models, and address data bias and ethics in AI workflows.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation for data processes, tools, business rules, and troubleshooting procedures.   

This role provides the flexibility to be based at Akaysha’s Melbourne (HQ) or Sydney Office, with the option to work in hybrid capacity - spend time in the office, and at home

Making an impact in this role will rely on experience across the following areas:   

  • Microsoft Azure Service - Ability to design and manage data solutions using Azure Databricks, Data Lake Storage (ADLS), Synapse Analytics, SQL Database, and Data Factory.
  • SQL - The capability to design and optimise data models and perform complex transformations using advanced SQL.
  • Python - Ability to automate workflows, wrangle data, and integrate solutions with Databricks notebooks through robust Python scripting.
  • PowerShell - Proficiency in automation of Azure resource management and configuration using PowerShell scripts.
  • Azure Monitor and Azure Security Centre - The capability to monitor performance, diagnose issues, and ensure compliance through security and operational insights.
  • RBAC and Data Encryption - Expertise in implementing Role-Based Access Control and application of encryption standards to secure data within Azure environments.
  • Microsoft Purview - Ability to catalogue, classify, and govern enterprise data for compliance and discovery.
