Orano TN, a subsidiary of Orano USA, is a leader in the American market for used nuclear fuel storage, radioactive waste management and fuel transportation logistics.  The company offers a complete line of products and related services to the transportation, storage, and engineering sectors operating in the fuel cycle materials market. 

 

Orano TN is seeking a Design Project Engineer to support the engineering and design of spent nuclear fuel storage and transportation packages. This position provides technical leadership and oversight of design engineering activities on-site. Ensuring designs meet regulatory, safety, and performance requirements. The role combines hands-on technical expertise with team leadership and cross-functional coordination.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and mentor a team of discipline engineers.
  • Perform and review calculations in support of design, development, and licensing activities.
  • Provide technical guidance on analysis methods, assumptions, modeling approaches, and acceptance criteria.
  • Support licensing reviews and ensure compliance with applicable specifications, regulations, codes, and standards (e.g., 10 CFR Part 71 and Part 72).
  • Interface with Project Managers to support scope, schedule, resources, and risk management.
  • Communicate technical status, risks, and recommendations to company leadership.
  • Review and approve technical reports, calculations, and licensing documentation.
  • Coordinate with other engineering disciplines to ensure integrated and optimized designs.
  • Support responses to customers and participate in technical meetings as required.

Skills and Qualifications (internal)

All candidates must meet the following minimum requirements in order to be considered for this opportunity.  Candidates who exceed minimum qualifications may be considered for a higher level position:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Structural, Nuclear, or related engineering discipline. An advanced degree (MS or MBA) may substitute for 1-2 years and (PhD) may substitute for 2-3 years of related work experience. In applicable states a PE license will be accepted in lieu of a 4 year engineering degree.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience working at a Nuclear Power Plant.
  • Demonstrated leadership or management experience.
  • Working knowledge of applicable engineering codes, standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills.

 

Preferred Additional Qualifications:

  • Experience with spent nuclear fuel storage and transportation systems.
  • Experience supporting regulatory interfaces and licensing activities.
  • Leadership experience training early career engineers.
