Located approximately 26 miles from the City of Fairbanks, Fort Knox is a centre of excellence for the Company as one of the few cold weather heap leach facilities in the world. Fort Knox celebrated its 25-year anniversary in 2021, and has produced over 8.5 million ounces since it began operation. In 2020, Kinross acquired Manh Choh – a project expected to commence production in 2024 and process ore at Fort Knox.

Job Summary

The Dewatering Supervisor is responsible for supervising and instructing the Dewatering crew; maintaining the dewatering system in an effort to ensure water levels remain below current mining levels; maintain water storage levels and access for seasonal dust suppression needs; perform all aspects of the position in a, safe, cost-effective, and productive manner while continuously aligning daily functions to reflect Kinross’ values. 

Essential Functions

  •  Line out crews in a way they can effectively achieve all production goals.Develop and maintain the mine dewatering programs.
  • Coordinate all maintenance activities of the dewatering infrastructure to include wells, pumping stations, piezometers, piping, transformers, power cables etc.
  • Conduct performance evaluations, recommend promotions, and carry out disciplinary actions as needed.
  • Investigate, analyze and supervise the documentation of accidents, injuries, and equipment damage and recommend prevention strategies as necessary.
  • Work with mine planning to schedule upcoming projects.  Assist the Technical Services Department with determining specifications of the equipment.
  • Coordinate with the mine and mill departments on production goals and priorities.
  • Coordinate with planning and warehousing to ensure that all necessary parts, tools, and equipment are available to complete work assignments efficiently.
  • Interface with various equipment manufacturers’ representatives.
  • Monitor work areas on an ongoing basis to assure a safe and efficient operation.
  • Report Processing: daily time cards, Paid Time Off (PTO) requests, accident and injury reports, and disciplinary action reports.
  • Control expenditures and lost production by minimizing equipment downtime through properly executed preventative maintenance and repairs.
  • Answers queries and handles requests concerning health and safety, production, mechanical/electrical training and development, and supervisory skills.
  • Works closely with the Maintenance Planners to schedule equipment repairs and replacement to maximize equipment utilization and minimize downtime.
  • Helps develop other department personnel to perform duties listed above.
  • Compliance with all company policies and procedures including, but not limited to safety, environmental, confidentiality and code of conduct.
  • Meets or exceeds established performance expectations set by management.
  • Consistently exercises discretion and judgment in job performance.
  • Works without risk or harm to self and others.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license issued by state agency.
  • Punctuality and regular attendance required.
  • Perform other related functions as assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications and Skill Requirements

  • Employee must have sufficient education to read and write instructions, perform simple mathematical calculations, and keep records.
  • A Bachelor of Science in hydrology or mechanical engineering is preferred.
  • Strong mechanical background.
  • Previous mine dewatering experience desired.
  • General understanding of mining operations, as well as limited understanding of milling and maintenance operations.
  • Good working knowledge and skill with P.C. utilizing word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation software.
  • Strong verbal, written, analytical, and persuasive skills and the ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees and management.
  • Demonstrates strong administrative, organizational and technical writing skills.
  • Must be a self-starter with the ability to work with others in a team environment.
  • Ability to function within the qualifications outlined in the attached physical demands sheets.
  • May work holidays, weekends, and shift work as required.y
