How will you make an impact in this role?

The Director – ETS Finance Data & Analytics Enablement will lead a newly established Center of Excellence focused on transforming finance processes through data-driven insights, advanced analytics, and digital enablement. This leader will operate in a dynamic, whitespace environment – identifying opportunities, building connections across Finance and Enterprise Technology Services (ETS), and championing a culture of innovation, empowerment, and continuous learning.

The Director will also partner with cross-functional stakeholders to understand business needs and translate them into actionable data strategies. This includes driving the adoption of best practices in data governance, analytics methodologies, and digital solutions across the organization. By empowering teams through enhanced data literacy and technology enablement, this role will play a pivotal part in shaping the future of Finance at American Express.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build and lead a high-performing analytics and data team (manager and analyst), fostering a collaborative and inclusive culture.
  • Thrive in a dynamic whitespace environment, proactively identifying opportunities for improvement and innovation
  • Oversee the enhancement and re-engineering of finance processes, including system/data hierarchy improvements and workflow redesign, to drive efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Develop and maintain dashboards and reporting tools (Power BI) to support business decision-making and increase self-service capabilities.
  • Explore and implement AI and automation opportunities to streamline processes and enable teams to focus on higher-value work.
  • Serve as a connector across Finance and Technology, ensuring seamless collaboration and alignment on strategic initiatives.
  • Champion change with empathy and transparency, supporting team members through transitions and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Establish standards and governance for data management, analytics, and process optimization within the finance function.
  • Collaborate with business partners to identify, prioritize, and execute impactful initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Data Science, Analytics, Engineering, Finance, or related field.
  • 7+ years experience in analytics, data engineering, or process optimization roles, with at least 3 years in a leadership capacity.
  • Strong expertise in data engineering, analytics, and business intelligence tools (Power BI required; experience with AI/ML a plus).
  • Demonstrated success in leading process re-engineering and digital transformation initiatives.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and change leadership skills.
  • Experience building and scaling high-performing teams.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a passion for continuous improvement.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of, or strong curiosity and learning agility around, AI, ML, and Generative AI technologies (e.g., large language models, natural language processing, and agentic systems).
  • Financial literacy and direct experience working in Finance, FP&A, or similar analytical domains, and familiarity with financial systems and tools (Oracle/TM1).

Minimum Qualifications

 

Salary Range: $123,000.00 to $215,250.00 annually + bonus + equity (if applicable) + benefits
