Your role:
Reporting to the VP Finance, you have a leading role in the Finance & Accounting team and are responsible for the oversight of Global Relay’s financial reporting, receivables and revenue operations, and payroll functions. This role ensures effective management and oversight of these financial operations that support enterprise-wide initiatives with a focus on being a proactive and responsible business partner in a high growth environment. You work alongside the Director, Finance Operations who primarily oversees accounts payable, procurement, and travel. Both the Director, Finance and the Director, Finance Operations have shared ownership of the treasury and forecasting functions of Global Relay given the highly integrated nature of these functions. You will work together to drive efficiency and scale, strengthen internal controls, and align financial operations within Global Relay’s broader strategic and fiscal objectives. As a senior leadership role, you will also support ad hoc strategic initiatives as required.
This role is a maternity leave cover for our existing Director, Finance; however, we are seeking candidates with strong long-term fit with Global Relay.
Your responsibilities:
- Strategic Leadership
- Lead the development and execution of financial strategies, policies, and processes that support Global Relay’s strategic and operational goals
- Own the oversight and integration of your managed functions (Financial Reporting, Receivables & Revenue, Payroll) within budgeting and forecasting processes
- Drive cost optimization and process efficiency across all financial operations
- Establish and maintain strong internal controls within Finance and cross-functionally with other business stakeholders both within and outside Global Relay
- Foster a culture of integrity, innovation, and continuous improvement
- Partner with executive leadership and department heads to ensure financial alignment with business strategy
- Utilize data analytics to enhance decision-making, reporting, and performance tracking across financial operations
- Financial Reporting
- Provide strategic oversight and direction for the financial close process across a growing portfolio of entities expanding at an international scale
- Own the integrity and quality of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statement and reporting packages, ensuring stakeholder needs are consistently met and financial data quality supports informed decision-making
- Establish and maintain a robust control framework to ensure financial transactions are captured timely and accurately
- Champion a culture of process excellence, focused on continuous improvement and working to continually reduce month end and reporting cycle times
- Drive accountability for financial analyses, helping define and monitor Key Performance Indicators and ensuring that financial insights are delivered on a reliable cadence and meet internal and external needs
- Serve as the senior management liaison for consolidated and local statutory financial statement audits
- Oversee a growing portfolio of local statutory financial statement reporting requirements around the world (e.g. USA, UK, Sweden, Spain, Singapore, Australia, China), working with internal teams and external service providers to ensure highly accurate and timely preparation of financial information
- Coordinate the timely and accurate responses to ad hoc data requests from management, customers, auditors, regulatory authorities, and government agencies
- Build and develop a high-performing financial reporting team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, mentorship, and professional growth
- Receivables & Revenue
- Lead the end-to-end billing and accounts receivable function, working with Receivables and Revenue management to establish scalable processes and internal controls that ensure accurate, timely invoicing and revenue recognition in a growing business
- Serve as a strategic advisor to senior cross-functional team members on complex enterprise deals and strategic partnerships, providing guidance on billing structures, revenue implications, and non-standard terms to optimize deal outcomes and mitigate risk
- Oversee collections strategy and cash flow optimization, focusing on robust dunning processes, monitoring collections performance against targets, and timely response to escalated matters
- Champion continuous improvement and system transformation initiatives, partnering with cross-functional leaders to identify opportunities, implement process enhancements, and leverage technology to drive operational efficiency and scalability across the billing function
- Establish and oversee the bad debt provision framework and high-risk account management strategy, including the timely identification of at-risk accounts and proactive mitigation measures to minimize write-offs while preserving customer relationships
- Payroll
- Provide strategic oversight of the payroll function, ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant processing across all jurisdictions while maintaining appropriate segregation of duties and internal controls
- Oversee payroll compliance and risk management, ensuring adherence to statutory requirements across all regions (e.g., Canada, US, UK, Sweden, Spain, Singapore, Switzerland, Australia), including tax filings, benefits administration, and year-end reporting obligations
- Partner with the Senior Manager, Payroll to drive process improvements and system enhancements, identifying opportunities for automation, efficiency gains, and strengthened controls within the payroll function
- Serve as a resource and escalation point for complex and non-routine payroll matters, providing guidance on unusual compensation scenarios, regulatory changes, cross-border considerations, and exceptions handling to ensure appropriate resolution and compliance
- Partner with Sales Operations to provide financial oversight and validation of sales commission calculations, ensuring accuracy, policy compliance, and timely payout
- Other
- Collaborate alongside other finance management to ensure appropriate cash management and liquidity needs to ensure adequate runway for operational and strategic needs
- Support the Accounts Payable and Treasury functions with day-to-day banking matters as necessary, including, but not limited to, fund movement and payment review and approval
- Participate in cross-functional projects and initiatives – both within and outside of Finance & Accounting – as required given the scope of duties within this role
About you:
- Qualified professional accountant (CPA, CA, CMA, CGA) with a strong work ethic and integrity
- Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in accounting and finance, with at least 5 years in leadership roles of similar scope
- Experience in full cycle accounting in the Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) industry is an asset
- Deep expertise in multiple accounting frameworks (IFRS, ASPE) and extensive experience leading consolidated financial reporting across multi-entity, multi-jurisdictional organizations
- Exposure to international statutory reporting is an asset; a strong interest in developing expertise in this area is required, with a focus on maintaining lean processes and robust internal controls as global reporting scope expands
- Demonstrated success leading finance operations within a complex organization, including experience implementing scalable financial systems, process automation, and internal controls
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities with experience in researching and preparing technical accounting memos
- Advanced proficiency in MS Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
- Exceptional organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize competing demands in a fast-paced environment
- Inspirational people leader with a proven ability to develop, mentor, and engage high-performing finance teams
- Rigorous attention to detail and commitment to data integrity across financial operations
- Executive-level written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex financial information clearly to senior stakeholders
- Clear understanding of financial KPIs for SaaS businesses is an asset
- Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion and sound judgment
- Familiarity with NetSuite accounting system and Salesforce CRM system is an asset

Compensation:
Global Relay advertises the pay range for this role in compliance with British Columbia’s pay transparency laws. Individual pay rates are determined by evaluating factors such as expertise, skills, education, and professional background.
