Position Summary
The Director of Business Implementation is responsible for leading the successful delivery of implementation projects across North America. This role provides leadership to a team of Project Managers responsible for new customer startups, business expansions, warehouse management system (WMS) implementations, automation deployments, network consolidations, facility relocations, and other strategic operational initiatives.
The Director is responsible for leading the successful delivery of projects, ensuring execution on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with approved scope while delivering an exceptional customer experience. The Director provides strategic oversight and serves as the primary point of escalation for implementation challenges, ensuring alignment across internal stakeholders and customers.
Success in this role requires strong leadership, operational expertise, executive communication skills, disciplined project governance, and the ability to manage a diverse portfolio of complex initiatives across multiple locations.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Development
Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing team of Project Managers responsible for strategic implementation projects across North America.
Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, and customer focus.
Conduct performance management, talent development, succession planning, and resource planning activities.
Establish consistent project management standards, methodologies, and best practices.
Portfolio Management
Oversee a portfolio of customer implementations from contract award through operational stabilization.
Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in alignment with contractual and operational requirements.
Monitor project health, financial performance, schedules, milestones, risks, and resource utilization across the portfolio.
Prioritize competing business demands while balancing team capacity and organizational objectives.
Project Governance
Maintain governance processes including executive steering committees, project reviews, risk management, change control, and stage-gate approvals.
Drive proactive identification, mitigation, and resolution of project risks and issues.
Ensure adherence to established implementation methodology, documentation standards, and reporting requirements.
Provide executive-level visibility into portfolio status, risks, financial impacts, and key decision points.
Cross-Functional Leadership
Partner closely with Operations, Implementation Engineering, IT, Solution Design, Business Process Excellence, Finance, Human Resources, Procurement, and other functional teams throughout project execution.
Align internal stakeholders to project objectives, timelines, and customer commitments.
Resolve cross-functional challenges and remove barriers impacting project success.
Customer Engagement
Build trusted relationships with customer leadership throughout implementation.
Ensure customer expectations are effectively managed through transparent communication and proactive issue resolution.
Support customer presentations, executive business reviews, and implementation governance meetings.
Continuous Improvement
Identify opportunities to improve implementation processes, governance, project tools, reporting, and organizational effectiveness.
Drive standardization and adoption of best practices across the implementation organization.
Leverage lessons learned to improve future project execution and customer outcomes.
Business Development and Solution Support
Partner with Business Development, Solution Design, Operations, Engineering, IT, and other cross-functional stakeholders during the sales lifecycle to develop executable implementation strategies for prospective customer opportunities.
Participate in customer proposal meetings, solution workshops, and executive presentations, serving as the implementation subject matter expert and trusted advisor.
Develop high-level implementation approaches, milestone plans, resource strategies, and transition roadmaps that support customer proposals and contract negotiations.
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Engineering, Operations Management, or related field required.
PMP certification or equivalent project management certification preferred.
8+ years of progressive experience leading complex supply chain, logistics, implementation, or operations projects.
5+ years of leadership experience managing project management or implementation teams.
Experience within third-party logistics (3PL), contract logistics, distribution, warehouse operations, manufacturing, or supply chain environments strongly preferred.
Strong financial acumen including project budgeting, forecasting, cost management, and resource planning.
Experience presenting to executive leadership and customer executives.
Willingness to travel approximately 30–50% throughout North America.
