Domestic Supervisor
G4SG4S, the healthcare facilities partner part of Allied Universal, is looking for a Domestic Supervisor to lead the cleaning services team at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Oxford. This is a full-time, on-site role with a 40-hour week, mainly evenings from 17:00 to 02:00, Monday to Friday. If you enjoy guiding teams, keeping hospital environments spotless, and supporting patient care through strong hygiene practices, this could be the right fit.
G4S operates globally as a major security and facilities provider, serving more than 400 Fortune 500 clients. The group runs in over 100 countries, and in the UK they employ more than 31,000 people. Allied Universal, its parent company for many markets, is a large player in the sector with substantial resources for training and development. You’ll be joining a company that prioritises training, supports career progression, and offers a broad benefits package when you join the team.
You’ll work in a hospital setting where cleanliness and infection control matter every day. The role requires hands-on leadership that keeps the cleaning operation running smoothly while maintaining high standards of hygiene and safety for patients, staff, and visitors.
What you’ll actually do on a day in the life
You’ll lead and coach the cleaning team, monitoring performance and output to ensure the hospital’s spaces stay clean and safe. Your guidance helps the crew stay focused on delivering consistent hygiene, with you helping to train and develop team members so standards don’t slip over time. You’ll also keep a close eye on how shifts are scheduled, adjusting patterns to match fluctuating workloads and staffing levels, so service levels remain reliable regardless of the day or time.
When questions or issues arise from patients, staff, or visitors, you’ll respond promptly, aiming for quick, courteous resolutions that preserve trust in the cleaning service. You’ll oversee stock levels of cleaning supplies, ensuring the team always has what it needs to get the job done, while avoiding shortages that could slow processes. And when operational needs require it, you’ll roll up your sleeves to pitch in with cleaning duties, keeping the operation agile and connected to frontline tasks.
Must-have requirements, then nice-to-haves
- Experience supervising cleaning or facilities teams, ideally within a healthcare environment.
- Ability to plan and adjust shifts to meet changing demand across the week.
- Strong customer service skills with a track record of handling enquiries and resolving issues quickly.
- Experience overseeing stock control and making sure supplies are always available for the team.
- Willingness to contribute to cleaning duties when operational needs require it.
- Familiarity with hospital hygiene standards or infection control policies.
- Experience with rostering or scheduling tools to manage shift patterns efficiently.
- A proactive coaching style and comfort guiding a team through policy and procedure updates.
Pay, benefits and practical details you should know
The role pays between £12.74 and £17.21 per hour, with the higher rate applying for shifts after 8pm and before 6am. The position is permanent and full-time, 40 hours per week, with shifts from 17:00 to 02:00, Monday to Friday, at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Oxford (OX3 7LD).
The company emphasises support and development, and offers a broad range of benefits. You’ll be part of a large employer with a track record of training, progression, and competitive terms. In addition to the base pay, benefits include ongoing training and development, one volunteering day for charity work, a uniform, and an annual leave entitlement of 20 days plus bank holidays, pro rata. You’ll also have access to Charity work initiatives like Match-IT and Payroll Giving, Refer A Friend incentives, a company pension with employer contributions, a life assurance scheme, a subsidised healthcare plan, confidential counselling services, 24/7 health and medical support, and discounts with various high street brands and travel providers.
G4S is committed to inclusion and diversity and invites applications from all suitably qualified candidates, regardless of race, gender, disability, religion or belief, sexual orientation or age. The company also offers an interview to applicants with a disability who meet the minimum requirements for the role.
Tips for applicants
Highlight your supervisory experience in healthcare or facilities cleaning up front on your resume, and show concrete examples of how you’ve improved hygiene standards or team performance in a hospital or similar setting.
When you describe your must-have skills, use specific scenarios that demonstrate how you’ve scheduled shifts, managed fluctuating staffing needs, and kept stock levels high enough to avoid service gaps.
Prepare to discuss a time you handled a challenging customer inquiry or complaint in a healthcare environment. Explain the steps you took, the outcome, and what you learned about keeping patient and staff confidence high.
Have a thoughtful question ready for the interviewer, such as asking about the current main hurdle for the night cleaning team at Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre and how the supervisor role is expected to help address it. This shows you’re ready to contribute from day one.
