As a Doorways Case Worker, you’ll walk alongside people doing it tough, helping them build the skills and resilience to create real, lasting change.

Why this role matters:

The Salvation Army (Salvos) Doorways model of care provides holistic financial support to individuals and families seeking short-term financial assistance and ongoing financial management support services. The Doorways Team provide person-centred trauma-informed care, facilitate short-term financial assistance, and walk side-by-side with participants as they build the skills and knowledge to break the cycle of poverty.

About the role:

Reporting to the Doorways Regional Manager (DRM), the Doorways Case Worker is responsible for providing case work support to community members who request material assistance and to those who would benefit from more specialized assistance.

You will provide support, guidance and encouragement within a case work setting, to community members who are wanting to make positive changes in their life.  You will have the ability to explore with community members the deeper issues that have been contributing to their presenting situation, with a view to building longer term capacity and resilience.

How you will make an impact:

  • Provide compassionate, person-centred support to community members seeking material aid or ongoing case management.
  • Develop strength-based case plans and work with individuals to set and achieve meaningful goals.
  • Address the root causes of financial stress through trauma-informed and practical support.
  • Collaborate with Corps Officers, volunteers, and local partners to deliver integrated services.
  • Connect people with community resources and services to build long-term stability and independence.
     

What will you bring:

  • Hold a Diploma in Community Services (or similar) or have equivalent experience.
  • Experienced in working with vulnerable people facing complex challenges like financial hardship, housing instability, mental health, or substance use.
  • Strong communicator with the ability to build trust and motivate others.
  • Hold a valid Blue Card (QLD WWCC)
     
  • Valid driver’s license, a comprehensively insured vehicle and willingness to use for work-related purposes (mileage paid for work-related travel).
     
  • Resilient, adaptable, and capable of managing unpredictable situations with empathy and professionalism.
