Job Description
The Engineer – Projects undertakes underground mine project engineering work as required to implement safe, timely and cost-effective solutions to deliver on planned mine production. Responsible for ensuring the effective planning, monitoring, and maintenance of mine ventilation systems in compliance with regulatory standards, supporting safe and efficient underground operations.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
- Proactively assess medium- and long-term ventilation needs by collaborating with mine planning engineers and reviewing upcoming mining schedules. Ensure ventilation strategies align with projected development and production activities.
- Effectively communicate ventilation work requirements to planning engineers and operational teams, supported by clear documentation, technical drawings, and implementation timelines.
- Ensure all ventilation-related activities—including inspections, maintenance, system modifications, and compliance checks—are logged accurately and promptly in the INX system. This includes recording survey data, calibration logs, incident reports, and regulatory documentation to meet statutory and operational standards.
- Compile detailed AFE submissions for ventilation and infrastructure projects requiring capital investment, as directed by management. This includes assembling technical specifications, cost estimates, business justifications, and supporting documentation. Coordinate with relevant departments to facilitate approval and ensure alignment with budgetary and strategic objectives.
- Lead the planning, scheduling, and organization of underground mining and construction activities, ensuring alignment with operational goals and safety standards.
- Proactively assess infrastructure and project execution processes to identify potential issues and recommend improvements that enhance efficiency, safety, and cost-effectiveness.
- Collaborate with technical services and operational teams to assist in the management and delivery of mining, civil construction, and ventilation projects.
- Carry out a range of engineering tasks, including design reviews, technical assessments, and problem-solving activities to support project and operational needs.
- Assist operational construction and technical services teams with purchasing, cost control, and logistics coordination for all project-related activities, including civil works and ventilation systems.
- Raise, track, and maintain purchase orders in accordance with company procurement procedures, ensuring timely delivery of materials and services to support project execution.
- Perform pressure and quantity surveys of both primary and secondary ventilation systems to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and operational requirements.
- Perform all tasks in accordance with site safety standards, correctly using personal protective equipment (PPE) and following all written and verbal health and safety instructions.
Qualifications
- Hold a Bachelor of Engineering with Mining, Engineering Geology or related discipline.
- Hold a Full and current Driver’s License and be competent driving manual vehicles.
- A minimum of 2 years’ experience in underground mining.
