The Opportunity

We are seeking a highly motivated Co-op student who is looking for a fast-paced, challenging and rewarding work term. The position will be responsible for assisting in implementing Lean initiatives in our 200,000 ft2 vertically integrated facility that includes lasers, brakes, manual and robotic welding, powder coat painting, assembly, and shipping departments. This will include a mix of time studies, monitoring, analysis, communication, and production and design activities. Every day will offer something new. Plus, there is no rush hour traffic or paying for parking downtown, as our office is located in Rosenort, a quiet rural community only 20 minutes south of the city.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct time studies and analyses on production processes.
  • Identify waste in production processes and suggest ways to remove such waste.
  • Improve efficiencies of production processes using Lean manufacturing methods.
  • Develop spreadsheets to track, process, and analyze data and display results.
  • Aide in the design of jigs, fixtures, carts, tables, and other production tooling needed.
  • Perform quality checks on parts being fabricated.
  • Implement processes to keep work areas clean and organized.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Two years of university education in engineering.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently as well as in teams.
  • Knowledge of steel manufacturing processes
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles and experience implementing process improvements (5S, Kanban, VSM, etc.)
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience in computer-assisted drafting (preferably SolidWorks).
  • Ability to read and follow engineering drawings.
