NXP Semiconductors is seeking an Equipment Engineer for Gas and Chemical Systems to join its Technology & Operations group in Nijmegen, the Netherlands. This full-time onsite role sits in the ICN8 wafer fab, home to Europe’s largest 8-inch cleanroom and focused on automotive-grade products. The team maintains the gas and chemical installations that feed production tools and gas detection systems, and it needs a hands-on professional who can keep those lifelines running reliably.

ICN8 employs about 750 people, and the Maintenance Support & Gas and Chemical Systems section is responsible for all gas and chemical installations and related safety systems. The role sits within that team, offering the chance to influence equipment reliability, safety and efficiency on the factory floor.

Keeping the gas and chemical lifelines running

Your days mix coordination with subcontractors on maintenance activities, setting priorities, and tracking actions to closure. You’ll stay in the loop on planning and ensure work aligns with production needs while keeping stakeholders informed.

You’ll drive improvement programs by analyzing tool data and identifying where to lift performance on safety, quality, availability and cost. You’ll lead or manage projects to boost the reliability of gas and chemical systems, define what modifications are needed, and oversee testing and acceptance of those changes.

Documentation stays current under your watch, and you’ll maintain procedures as the installed systems evolve. You’ll also train maintenance technicians and back up teams when complex issues surface, bringing a practical, hands-on approach to keep operations stable.

The essentials you’d bring to the team

  • A bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electrical or chemical engineering, or an equivalent background
  • Know-how of gas and chemical delivery systems
  • One to three years of hands-on experience in a similar role
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams
  • Experience taking the lead on projects or activities
  • Familiarity with PLC-based control systems
  • Familiarity with structured problem-solving methods such as advanced troubleshooting and incident mapping
  • Semiconductor industry experience is a plus
  • Experience with safety studies, ATEX and BRZO regulations is a plus

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience updating and maintaining documentation and procedures
  • Track record of driving process improvements beyond the day-to-day
  • Ability to coach and mentor maintenance technicians

Advice for applicants

Lead with your degree and the core gas and chemical systems experience up front so the recruiter sees you match the must-haves at a glance.

Back up claims with concrete examples: share a project where you led a modification to a gas delivery system or implemented a safety improvement tied to ATEX/BRZO standards, and quantify the impact if possible.

Be ready to walk through a structured problem-solving approach, such as a real incident you mapped and resolved, and discuss how you collaborated with cross-functional teams to complete it.

Ask about how the site tracks reliability metrics for gas and chemical systems, including what current improvement programs exist and how KPIs like Safety, Quality, Availability and Cost are monitored.
