Description

The Finance Accountant will support the Financial Controller in delivering accurate financial reporting, financial control and business performance analysis across the Irish Waste division. The role bridges transactional finance activities and strategic financial reporting, ensuring timely management information, strong financial governance and effective support for operational decision-making. Based in Carryduff, the successful candidate will play a key role in month-end reporting, budgeting, forecasting and continuous process improvement.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Reporting & Control
  • Lead the month-end close process, including accruals, prepayments and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Prepare accurate and timely monthly management accounts.
  • Produce variance analysis and provide meaningful commentary on business performance.
  • Assist in the preparation of financial reports for senior management.
Cost Management & Analysis
  • Perform detailed analysis of cost of goods sold (COGS), inventory and operating expenses.
  • Monitor financial performance and identify opportunities for cost control and efficiency improvements.
  • Support operational teams with financial insight to aid decision-making.
Budgeting & Forecasting
  • Monitor daily cash flow requirements.
  • Support the Financial Controller with weekly, monthly and rolling forecasts.
  • Assist with annual budgeting processes and ongoing financial planning activities.
Compliance & Governance
  • Support year-end statutory accounts preparation and external audit requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards, VAT and payroll regulations.
  • Maintain strong financial controls and adherence to company policies and procedures.
Continuous Improvement
  • Identify and implement improvements to finance processes and reporting.
  • Support the development and enhancement of financial systems and controls.
  • Work collaboratively across departments to improve efficiency and data accuracy.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

Essential
  • Fully qualified ACCA, CIMA or ACA accountant, or part-qualified with significant relevant experience.
  • Previous experience in a management accounting, finance analyst or similar role.
  • Strong understanding of financial reporting and management accounting principles.
  • Knowledge of VAT, payroll and statutory compliance requirements.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Experience using ERP or integrated finance systems.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain financial information to non-finance stakeholders.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
Desirable
  • Experience within waste management, industrial, manufacturing, environmental services or related sectors.
  • Experience working within a multi-site business environment.
  • Knowledge of business intelligence and reporting tools.
