Penguin Random House Audio in London is seeking a Finance Analyst on a permanent basis, reporting to the Senior Finance Manager. You will provide financial and commercial support, including month end reconciliation, journal posting, KPI packs and sales analysis, plus budgeting and forecasting and reporting to BBC. The role covers invoice coding, spend reviews and ad hoc analyses to inform decisions, all in line with group accounting policies. Essential: proven management accounting experience, strong numeracy and commercial sense, the ability to explain complex data to non-finance colleagues, solid Excel skills and a proactive, detail oriented mindset; experience with financial systems preferred. We have an exciting opportunity available for a Finance Analyst to join us on a permanent basis, within our Audio division. 

Reporting to the Senior Finance Manager, this role plays an integral part in providing financial and commercial support to the division with the collection, preparation and presentation of financial and management information. This information supports and informs decision making within the team and contributes to the maintenance and development of relevant reporting and information systems.

Penguin Random House is also proud to be the home of BBC Audio. We publish a wide range of entertainment drawn from recent radio programming and the BBC archive. Comedy titles include I’m Sorry I Haven’t a Clue, Cabin Pressure and That Mitchell & Webb Sound. The realms of fantasy are depicted in Doctor Who, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, The Lord of the Rings and The Chronicles of Narnia. There’s radio drama based on the works of some of our most popular and significant writers including Agatha Christie and Arthur Conan Doyle.

Key responsibilities: 

• Month end routines – reconciling P&L lines, preparation & posting of journals, KPI packs, overhead reports, top brand/author sales analysis 
• Preparation of regular analysis of performance
• Budget and forecasting preparation including providing grids to sales teams and processing revised sales assumptions
• External reporting to BBC
• Invoice checking & coding and answering queries
• Liaising with team to update and review spend
• Clear ad hoc analysis on Publishing House/department/author or title performance to support decision making
• Understanding revenues and costs associated with publishing and following group accounting policies 

What you’ll bring: 

Essential Criteria 

• Proven experience within a management accounting function.
• Excellent numeracy skills and good commercial outlook
• Ability to convey complex financial information to non-finance colleagues and partners across the business, and build strong working relationships
• Good excel skills including pivot tables, and what if statements
• Organised and proactive, with strong attention to detail
• Ability to learn new IT systems and processes
• Ability to analyse, evaluate and interpret commercial and financial data
• Experience of using financial accounting systems is preferred 

Preferred criteria 

• Experience within the media industry is desirable but not essential. 

Ideally, you will be working towards a professional accounting qualification, or looking to complete this.

Salary: 

Up to £30,000 depending on how your skills and experience align to the role, plus bonus and benefits.
