OMNI Engineering, a CRH company, started its business in 1985 in Omaha, Nebraska.  OMNI is involved in heavy highway construction as well as private and commercial site construction.  Its primary business involves the manufacture and placement of asphalt for roads, city streets and parking lots.  Currently, OMNI Engineering employs around 200 employees and remains a competitive force in the Omaha market.

  

Position Overview

The Foreperson Trainee is learning the duties of asphalt and construction production including paving, mill work and associated equipment operation. This includes applying safety and people leadership skills as well as coordinating the activities of workers engaged in asphalt construction.  Duties include but are not limited to running associated equipment, laboring, quality control, directing work, scheduling and the safety of all employees

 

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

  • Manages, and communicates with Management, issues affecting personnel, safety, maintenance, production efficiency, product quality, and current and upcoming projects.
  • Works with customer on delivery of our construction services.
  • Reads and interprets plans and specifications to accomplish tasks.
  • Ensures compliance with City, State and Federal regulations in all areas.
  • Works with the Quality Control Department to ensure products meet production and project specifications.
  • Conducts safety meetings and other employee correspondence as required.
  • Performs and documents safety, production and compliance reporting.
  • Reviews and submits payroll as well as maintains related documentation. 
  • Organizes and accounts for daily delivery of material, fuel consumption and mileage sheets
  • Assures all appropriate job-related documentation and reporting is captured and maintained.
  • Assist with other duties and projects as assigned.

 

Qualifications

Education/Experience

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required; and one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in the operation of asphalt equipment or other directly related industry experience preferred.
  • Ability to obtain OSHA 30 certification.

 

Work Requirements

  • Must be 18 years in age or older.
  • Must pass pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license. 
  • Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
  • Willingness to work independently within a team environment and assist the team with other duties as required.
  • Report to work dressed appropriately and ready to begin work at the designated start time.
  • Regular and consistent attendance is required and must be willing to work nights, weekends and holidays when necessary.
  • Individuals are required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated operations and production areas as stated by OSHA and/or MSHA, Company Policy and specific Job Site Requirements.

 

Knowledge/Skill Requirements

  • Knowledge of asphalt types, classifications and materials.
  • Knowledge of paving techniques, best practices, and paving equipment.
  • Ability to operate equipment safely and efficiently under a variety of working conditions.
  • Ability to recognize hazardous conditions.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a team in a fast-paced and complex environment, as well as being able to work independently with attention to detail.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions from supervisors to complete assigned tasks. 
  • Demonstrated ability to train, motive and lead employees.
  • Willingness and ability to work in and adapt to changes in circumstances, tasks, customer needs and other conditions that may affect their daily responsibilities.
  • Ability to cope well in stressful environments and communicate professionally.
  • Demonstrate a strong dedication to meeting the needs and expectations of our internal and external customers.

  • Able to communicate with others by email, telephone and in person.
  • Able to utilize a computer for processing, email communication, and preparation of documents and presentations.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to read, talk, and listen. 
  • Able to regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to frequently talk, hear, walk, stand and sit as well as occasionally required to reach, bend, use hands and fingers to manipulate objects or controls, climb or balance, stoop, kneel and crouch.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.

 

Work Environment

 

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.  A variety of noise levels, adverse weather conditions, and complex job sites are to be expected daily. Proper clothing, PPE (personal protective equipment) is required, and safety precautions should be taken to ensure your safety, and the safety of others in all conditions.  While performing non-field duties in this position, the environment is typical of an office setting and the noise level is usually quiet to moderate.
