A Electrical Draftsman is responsible for preparing accurate technical drawings, layouts, and documentation for electrical systems in residential, commercial, industrial, and infrastructure projects. They work closely with electrical engineers, architects, and other MEP disciplines to produce coordinated drawings that comply with project specifications, industry standards, and local electrical codes.

Job Description

An Electrical Draftsman develops detailed 2D and 3D drawings for electrical systems, including power distribution, lighting, low-voltage systems, fire alarm, and grounding systems, using CAD and BIM software. They review design documents, coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to resolve clashes, and update drawings throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare electrical shop drawings, installation drawings, and as-built drawings.
  • Develop layouts for power, lighting, emergency lighting, fire alarm, low-voltage, and grounding systems.
  • Produce detailed drawings using AutoCAD, Revit MEP, or other drafting software.
  • Coordinate with architectural, structural, mechanical, and plumbing teams to avoid design clashes.
  • Review electrical design drawings, specifications, and project requirements.
  • Ensure drawings comply with local electrical codes, standards, and client specifications.
  • Incorporate design revisions and maintain accurate drawing documentation.
  • Assist in preparing material take-offs, cable schedules, and quantity estimates.
  • Support electrical engineers and project managers during design and construction.
  • Maintain organized drawing records and document control.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Drafting Technology, or a related field.
  • 2–5 years of experience in electrical drafting or as required by the employer.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit MEP, Navisworks, and Microsoft Office.
  • Strong understanding of electrical systems, wiring methods, cable routing, and building services.
  • Knowledge of local electrical codes, regulations, and industry standards.
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural, structural, and MEP drawings.
