HVAC Draftsman Job Description

Position: HVAC Draftsman

Job Summary:
The HVAC Draftsman creates detailed HVAC drawings and plans based on engineering designs, project specifications, and applicable industry standards. They work closely with HVAC engineers, project managers, and other disciplines to ensure accurate and coordinated designs for construction and installation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare detailed HVAC shop drawings, layout drawings, and as-built drawings using AutoCAD, Revit, or other drafting software.
  • Develop ductwork, chilled water, refrigerant piping, ventilation, and equipment layout drawings.
  • Coordinate HVAC drawings with architectural, structural, plumbing, electrical, and fire protection disciplines.
  • Review project specifications, tender documents, and engineering designs.
  • Perform clash detection and resolve coordination issues using BIM software where applicable.
  • Update drawings based on engineer and client comments.
  • Maintain drawing revisions and document control procedures.
  • Ensure drawings comply with project requirements, local codes, and industry standards.
  • Assist in quantity take-offs and preparation of material schedules.
  • Support project teams during construction by providing drawing revisions and technical drafting assistance.

Qualifications:

  • Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Drafting Technology, or a related field.
  • 2–5 years of experience as an HVAC Draftsman (experience requirements may vary).
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit MEP, Navisworks, and Microsoft Office.
  • Strong understanding of HVAC systems, ductwork, piping, and mechanical services.
  • Knowledge of ASHRAE, SMACNA, and local building codes is an advantage.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and technical specifications.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and communication skills.
