At Green by Nature, we're more than just a greenspace maintenance team - we're passionate about keeping Ōtautahi and its surrounding areas clean, green and thriving. To support our mission, we're seeking a full time Gardener for our Village client! We are passionate about enhancing the natural environment and supporting our retirement village clients in creating their forward-thinking visions. As we enter an exciting chapter of growth, we’d love for you to join us on this journey!

What does a Gardener do, you ask?

Reporting to the Team Manager and working closely with your 2-3 teammates, you'll be responsible for maintaining gardens and green spaces. Your duties will include planting, weeding, pruning, and vegetation control, as well as caring for bedding displays, rose gardens, borders, and shrubbery. You'll ensure all tasks are completed to a high standard, working to a well-organised schedule that prioritises the safety of clients, community members, your team, and yourself!

Who We're Looking For:

Ideally, we'd love someone with hands-on gardening experience or a level 3/4 qualification in horticulture, however that's not essential. What really matters is having a solid work ethic, a passion for working outdoors, and a willingness to roll up your sleeves and get stuck in. Other qualities we seek include:

  • A full, current driver's licence with the ability to drive a manual vehicle
  • A level 3 or Level 4 National Certificate of Horticulture and current GrowSafe certifications are highly desirable
  • A sense of responsibility and ownership over your work, while being a team player who's always ready to help your mates
  • An understanding of health and safety practices relevant to the job
  • Great communication skills, with the ability to engage with the public if needed
  • A motivated, can-do attitude, and the drive to see the job through

What we can offer you:

As part of our team, you'll have the opportunity to work with other professionals, gain further knowledge and experience, and develop your career in horticulture. We offer full time staff guaranteed work hours with the ability to increase based on operational demands and casual workers will have the opportunity to have work offered as needed. We also offer a performance-based salary that is reviewed annually, and an annual $300 wellness benefit (after qualifying period).

With over 2000+ employees across New Zealand and Australia Green by Nature is committed to a culture of health and safety, excellence, and continuous improvement, whilst caring for our people, clients, and communities. If you are interested in either the full time or casual position we'd love to see your application!

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a passionate and enthusiastic team, so if your skills and experience match, then we want to hear from you. To apply for this role, click 'I'm interested'.

Please note, according to the companies Drug & Alcohol Policy and Security Policy, the successful applicant will be required to undertake and pass a pre-employment drug test and ministry of justice request for criminal convictions check.
