Job Summary:

The General Labour role is responsible for activities that maintain a healthy crop and for harvesting produce that is ready for market. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Crop maintenance; winding, suckering, de-leafing, lowering and pruning 
  • Harvest vegetables; using hand tools such as shears and knives 
  • Inspect crop quality; monitor for issues such as diseases, insect pests; report to personnel with authority 
  • Responsible for the carefully handling of produce; prevent bruising, or damage to the product; meet quality, food safety and packing standards 
  • Communicate frequently with Labour Supervisor, report quality issues, damage, shortages of product or packaging 
  • Maintain a clean work area through out shift; report damages or mechanical issues to personnel with authority 
  • Comply with SOPs, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), Food Safety, Health and Safety, and company policies and procedures; ensure standards consistently meet expectations 
  • Other core expectations as defined by the company 

Requirements: 

  • Secondary school diploma or equivalent preferred 
  • No previous experience required; general understanding of greenhouse operations preferred 
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and in a team  
  • Proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment, demonstrate keen attention to detail 
  • Ability to work at heights up to 15 feet 

Working Conditions: 

  • Hours of work may vary depending on business needs.; flexibility required 
  • This role operates in a hot, humid environment, where temperatures range from 90-100°F or more depending on the time of year. Occasional work within a refrigerated packhouse, where temperatures range from 45-55°F.  The noise level in the work environment can be loud due to packaging machinery, and forklift truck operation 
  • Role frequently requires the ability to stand, walk, bend, twist, use hands to handle or feel product or packaging, and reach with hands as well as visual requirements 
  • The position requires the ability to regularly lift to 30-pounds, occasionally up to 50-pounds This role regularly requires the employee to work at height up to 15 feet using a platform lifting device or scissor lift
