The Opportunity

Custody sits at the heart of Netwealth, a critical control point responsible for the safekeeping, settlement and reconciliation of more than $100B in client assets.

As General Manager – Custody, you’ll lead a high‑impact function that ensures every transaction is executed accurately, reconciled effectively, and compliant with regulatory obligations. You’ll oversee settlements, transfers and reconciliations, acting as the senior escalation point internally and with key external partners including ASX, Calastone, fund managers and registries.

This is a lean, high-performing team operating at significant scale. The role is less about hands-on operations and more about oversight, control, risk management and leadership. Ensuring the function runs with precision, discipline and resilience.

You’ll join at a pivotal time. The custody landscape is evolving rapidly, with change across CHESS replacement, digitisation, netting and AI-driven automation. We’re looking for someone who can bring fresh thinking, strengthen what works today, and help shape what Custody looks like next.

In this role, you will:

  • Lead end-to-end custody operations across a high-volume environment

  • Maintain strong controls across reconciliations, risk and compliance

  • Act as the key escalation point for complex internal and external issues

  • Build trusted relationships with external providers and industry bodies

  • Represent Custody in senior forums, including risk and compliance discussions

  • Drive process improvement, automation and operational efficiency

  • Lead and develop a small, experienced team

About you

You’re an experienced leader from custody, investment operations or a similarly high‑volume environment where accuracy, control and risk matter.

You combine strong technical depth with a practical leadership style. Someone who can oversee complex operations, improve processes and lead through change without overcomplicating things.

You’re calm under pressure, comfortable with competing priorities, and confident engaging with senior stakeholders and external providers. Importantly, you know how to lead lean teams, building trust, accountability and clarity.

You’ll bring:

  • Senior leadership experience in custody, operations, registries, broking or similar environments

  • Strong knowledge of CHESS, settlement processes and regulatory frameworks

  • Exposure to Calastone and managed fund operations (highly regarded)

  • Experience leading high-volume, high-risk operational teams

  • Strong relationship management across external partners and industry bodies

  • A track record of improving processes, strengthening controls and driving efficiency

  • A leadership style that empowers and develops others

  • An interest in industry change, including automation and AI
