Lockheed Martin is looking for a seasoned General Manager to lead Sikorsky Aircraft Australia Limited (SAAL), a key part of the Lockheed Martin rotorcraft support network. SAAL is widely regarded as Australia’s leading rotor-wing support organisation, dedicated to sustainment, training and end-to-end logistics for the Royal Australian Navy’s MH-60R Seahawk fleet. The role sits onsite in Yerriyong, NSW, and will appeal to leaders who enjoy shaping strategy, building strong customer relationships and delivering results in a defence aviation context.
The General Manager will set the growth and performance agenda for SAAL, steer program execution, drive digital transformation, and ensure financial commitments are met. Central to success in this role is fostering a culture of belonging, trust and transparency across the workforce while sustaining positive ties with internal and external customers.
Based in the Shoalhaven region of NSW, the position combines strategic leadership with hands-on oversight of MRO and logistics operations, making it a good fit for someone who wants to influence both the big picture and daily execution.

Daily rhythm in the wings

The role centers on directing SAAL’s maintenance, repair and logistics excellence and ensuring that cost, schedule and technical performance targets are met for the MRO work and contracted requirements. You’ll shape and implement a strategic plan to broaden operations and develop new capabilities, then align the organisation so program delivery stays efficient and predictable. Building and counting on a solid opportunity pipeline will be part of your routine, alongside actively participating in new business capture activities to grow the portfolio.

Must-have credentials

SAAL is looking for a leader with a proven history running a portfolio of large-scale development, production or sustainment programs valued at $500M or more, spanning domestic and international contexts. A related tertiary qualification is preferred, or equivalent senior experience that demonstrates the same depth. The role requires qualifications from EASA, DASA and CASA enabling you to fulfil the Accountable Manager duties and responsibilities. You should also bring strong business sense with a firm grasp of program financial measurements, including Earned Value Management and EVMS, to track progress and justify decisions. Demonstrated ability to cultivate and sustain effective customer relationships is essential, as is a track record as a strategic thinker who has planned and executed growth initiatives. Additionally, you’ll need robust risk and opportunity management capabilities and a familiarity with AI prompting as it applies to this position and practice.

Nice-to-have credentials

Ideally, you’ll also hold tertiary qualifications in a related discipline, and have broader experience that complements the core requirements. A background that includes exposure to digital transformation initiatives would be beneficial in helping SAAL advance its delivery and growth agenda.

Compensation and practical details

The role is onsite at the Yerriyong site in NSW, Australia, with Lockheed Martin as the employer. The description specifies the work arrangement as onsite, and no additional travel, license or physical-demand details are provided beyond that.

Tips for applicants

Lead with your track record managing a $500M+ portfolio of development, production or sustainment programs and highlight the outcomes you achieved for cost, schedule and technical performance.

Demonstrate how you’ve used Earned Value Management (EVMS) to steer programs and report on progress. Include concrete figures or metrics that show how you improved delivery or reduced risk.

Be ready to describe how you would drive SAAL’s digital transformation and growth strategy in a defence-aviation context, and what steps you’d take in the first 90 days to align, resource and accelerate the portfolio.

Think of a pointed question to ask about SAAL’s opportunity pipeline and how the team prioritises new business capture activities to secure future workload.
