Geo-environmental Apprentice

Tetra Tech is looking for an Apprentice to join our Geo-environmental Team and can be based in Bristol or Cardiff.  The position will suit someone with a real interest in geology and contaminated land who enjoys a balance of office and site works and travelling.

We will facilitate and sponsor (including payment of course fees) the successful candidate on a Geoscience Apprenticeship degree course undertaken part time at Keele University, over a five-year period.  The remainder of the full-time post would be spent supporting our geo-environmental teams undertaking environmental and geotechnical ground investigations, environmental monitoring programmes, environmental audits and related activities on behalf of our clients.

What you’ll be doing

You’ll be working both in the office and site-based activities that could include:

·       Site based environmental monitoring such as water and soil sampling

·       Site based support for our ground investigation projects

·       Preparing information and undertaking assessments to support environmental desk study appraisals and subsequent assessments

·       Environmental data entry and management, becoming familiar with industry data formats including software packages for the management of geotechnical and Geo-environmental data

·       Geological appraisals

·       Working individually (with supervision) or as part of a site team

·       Helping prepare factual reports

·       Ground investigation

·       Logging of soils and rocks

·       Environmental monitoring

·       Human health, controlled waters and gas risk assessment

·       Desk studies and Preliminary Risk Assessments

·       Minerals appraisals

·       Coal mining risk assessments

·       Ground engineering appraisals

·       Waste classification and material reuse

Successful completion of this course will enable you to confidently advance in this industry. You could progress your skills further by training as a chartered to geologist/scientist

Who we’re looking for

The Geoscientist Apprenticeship typically requires.

  • A levels ‘BBB’, or BTEC ‘DDM’, or Int. baccalaureate ‘29’ typically expected. 
  • Where applicants can demonstrate substantial and relevant experience, formal qualifications may be waived e.g. work experience or other education schemes etc.  
  • Applicants aged 16-18 at the start of the apprenticeship must hold GCSE qualifications in both Maths and English at Grade C (4) or an equivalent qualification. #LI-LD1
