Job Description

This is an exciting opportunity to bring your Geotechnical Engineering experience to Macraes mine. This position will involve undertaking and managing geotechnical project work and supporting other geotechnical functions at the mine including; tailings facility management, geotechnical drilling and investigations, mine planning and consenting, project studies, underground and open pit operation monitoring, risk assessment, earthworks construction and other infrastructure.

Key responsibilities:-

  • Plan, design, coordinate and execute geotechnical investigation and monitoring activities to support risk-based assessment and execution of proposed mining activities and infrastructure projects.
  • Contribute to regular surveillance and monitoring of tailings storage facilities in line with Operations, Maintenance and Surveillance Manuals, ensuring ongoing regulatory compliance of dams and other structures in terms of resource and building consent requirements.
  • Provide support, assistance and backup to Open Pit and Underground Geotechnical Engineers, including geotechnical inspection, mapping, testing and monitoring of ground conditions in active mining areas.
  • Understand and maintain close familiarity with site Ground Control Management Plans (GCMP) and Principal Hazard Management Plan (PHMP) for Ground Instability.
  • Plan and deliver geotechnical assessments to support project studies, resource consent applications and mine planning.
  • Undertake geotechnical modelling, analysis and assessment work, ensuring such work is appropriately reviewed by internal staff or consultants.
  • Work collaboratively with other staff and provide relevant geotechnical advice to assist development of mine plans and other projects, and to resolve technical issues.
  • Prepare annual forecast budgets for ongoing spend on data collection, equipment, software, contractors and consultants, etc.

Qualifications

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Engineering Geology (or alternative with a commensurate level of industry experience and professional development).
  • 8+ years’ relevant experience required.
  • Full and Current Driver Licence, with ability to drive manual vehicles.
  • Applicants must have immediate working rights / Visa for New Zealand
