Job Description

Main accountabilities:

  • Conduct analysis of Russian supply & demand of grains and oilseeds
  • Build national balance sheets for all G&O products traded by the platform, as well as a regional balance sheet for wheat.
  • Forecast Russian grains (wheat, corn, barley & minor grains) and oilseeds production volumes (soybeans, rapeseed, sunseed)
  • Organize and conduct crop tours.
  • Coordinate work with analysts and traders in various relevant countries.
  • Manage Russian oilseeds crush estimates.
  • Communicate results of analysis to Geneva traders and global group.
  • Provide the group early warnings on sudden S&D changes
  • Work with Geneva traders to develop trading strategy, highlight opportunities and risks.
  • Coordinate with grains / oilseeds desk to update Russia’s feed matrix
  • Monitor line-ups & customs and give regular updates to the group
  • Monitor weekly harvesting/planting pace and deduce S&D implications from the data
  • Estimate farmers’ costs of production and margins
  • Take leadership role in developing the platform's oilseeds research (information, methodology and communication) within the region.
  • Develop an extensive network with local external Grains & Oilseeds market players/analysts.
  • Coordinate with other LDC commodity analysts and data science team to improve LDC Russian research analysis.
  • Maintain and improve the Russia dataset and your balance sheet tool outputs (database/BI), including documentation, data checks, and reproducible logic.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Preference for a Degree in Agricultural Economics / Economics / Agronomy / Data/Statistics (or equivalent experience).
  • An expected duration of 5+ years in commodity research (ideally in grains/oilseeds), market analysis, on a trading platform or market research consultancy.
  • Proven Russian market coverage with Russian Language (Business professional / Natural Language Levels)
  • Deep knowledge of Russian commodity production practices (ideally in Grains & Oilseeds), regional agronomical specificities, dynamics of domestic demand (feed, human, industrial), internal trade flows & logistics, data sources.
  • Excellent quantitative and qualitative analysis skills; ability to interpret mixed information and maintain a clean assumption trail.
  • Advanced Excel and statistics skills (and ideally Power BI). Nice-to-have: Python/R
  • Attention to detail and accurate data handling.
  • Strong written and verbal communication; ability to turn complex signals into clear “so what” conclusions.
  • Comfortable engaging with commercial stakeholders; responsive and calm under time pressure
  • Strong prioritization and time management; can run a weekly cadence while handling ad hoc requests.
  • Curious, independent, and willing to challenge consensus with evidence
  • Willingness to travel when required (e.g. for crop tours).
