Job Description

Osler is embarking on an exciting digital transformation to implement a new, modernized hospital information system (HIS). The Health Justice Education Coordinator will support Osler’s upcoming Epic HIS rollout by adjusting or expanding established content, delivering education and coaching initiatives related, but not limited to: sex, gender, preferred names (SGN), preferred pronouns and social drivers of health (SDoH).

In working closely with the Health Justice Specialist, the Coordinator will translate health justice and people-centred care principles into practical, staff-facing education to ensure respectful, accurate and equitable data collection and documentation within Epic.

Accountabilities:

  • Deliver instructor-led SGN/SDOH training to diverse clinical and non-clinical end-user groups (e.g., lab techs, porters, allied health professionals, nurses, pharmacists, registration and finance staff etc.), each with varying levels of experience and technical skills
  • Deliver and present curriculum content in a clear and engaging manner, ensuring that participants are actively engaged and grasp the concepts
  • Prepare training lessons, print materials, and set up the training room and environment prior to the training session
  • Adhere to training delivery standards, templates, and processes
  • Identifies system knowledge level of users/students to appropriately provide assistance and facilitate training activities
  • Adapt training techniques to accommodate different learning styles and skill levels, making the learning experience interactive, effective and accessible to all participants
  • Collaborate with other Epic staff by co-facilitating classroom instruction and assisting as needed
  • Collaborate with training team and application team for development and maintenance of training materials such as classroom information sheets, PowerPoint slides, quick start guides and tip sheets based on updates, system upgrades and class participant feedback
  • Facilitate hands-on exercises and simulations to reinforce practical skills and boost confidence in using Epic
  • Facilitate completion of learning assessments for learners. Follow up with learners outside of the classroom to offer additional support if needed based on learning assessment results

Qualifications

  • Minimum one year community college in education/training (similar to Epic training specialist)
  • Undergraduate degree, B.Sc. or related is an asset
  • Less than one year relevant or related experience in facilitating training and/or education
  • Bachelor’s degree in a health-related, social science, or equity-focused field is an asset
  • Demonstrated experience in: health justice, equity or EDI education, and adult learning and facilitation
  • Strong knowledge of social drivers/determinants of health
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently within a defined project scope
  • Comfort working across clinical and non-clinical environments
  • Demonstrating adaptability and flexibility with respect to required changes in training content and delivery methods
  • Presentation skills in classroom and virtual type settings
  • Strong understanding of hospital workflows in either clinical or non-clinical areas is an asset
  • Demonstrated critical thinking skills and strong organizational skills
  • Strong communication skills, both verbally and written, including the ability to communicate clearly and effectively in a classroom or virtual setting
  • Demonstrated proficiency working with Microsoft Enterprise applications (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint, OneNote) required
  • Ability to work independently and in collaboration with a team to meet project milestones and ensure successful training/education delivery
  • Ability and willingness to support project success in a manner that goes beyond completion of assigned tasks
  • Ability to persevere in a high intensity project to overcome obstacles and difficult situations within a time sensitive implementation

Additional Information

Hours: Currently Monday to Friday, day shifts with occasional evenings (subject to change in accordance with operational requirements)

Salary:
Minimum: $31.81 per hour
Maximum: $39.76 per hour
