JobsCloseBy Editorial Insights

Until is a moonshot biotech company pursuing organ-scale reversible cryopreservation, and this internship centers on supporting rodent ECMO perfusion and whole-body function recovery experiments during evening and night shifts in the Bay Area. You’ll be the critical second set of hands, continuously scanning for failure modes while handling anesthetized animals and tracking multiple physiological and circuit data streams, collecting samples, running frequent blood gases, and documenting interventions in real time. This role rewards precise attention to detail, disciplined note-taking, and calm situational awareness under pressure. To apply, emphasize 1+ year rodent research with in vivo exposure, data monitoring and clear communication, reliability on late shifts, and a collaborative mindset in a fast growing biotech setting.

About Until
Until is a moonshot company building a “pause button” for biology. Our near-term focus is organ-scale reversible cryopreservation: preserving donated organs at subzero temperatures without ice formation, then rewarming them uniformly for transplant. By solving this challenge, we are laying the foundation for whole-body reversible cryopreservation, giving patients a bridge to future cures.
To achieve our goal, we are assembling an interdisciplinary team to develop perfusion systems, cryoprotectant formulations, and vitrification and rewarming hardware. We envision a future where no transplantable organ is lost to logistics, and no terminal diagnosis is final because patients can safely wait for future medicine to arrive.
About the Role
We’re seeking a highly detail-oriented intern to support rodent ECMO perfusion and whole-body function recovery experiments. This is a hands-on role at the center of live perfusion operations, where precision, focus, and rapid response directly impact outcomes.
The most important part of this job is being the dedicated second set of hands/eyes during late-night perfusions—continuously scanning for critical failure modes and catching small issues before they cascade. You’ll work closely with the experiment lead, handling anesthetized animals gently and accurately while monitoring multiple physiological and circuit parameters in parallel.
This environment changes fast. Success requires strong situational awareness, disciplined documentation, and the ability to stay fully alert and effective during long late-night windows.

Key Responsibilities

  • Continuous monitoring of physiology, ventilation, and perfusion circuit to catch/escalate failure modes.
  • Collect blood/urine; run blood gases every 5–10 min; report results immediately.
  • Prep solutions/drug dilutions accurately; administer as directed.
  • Keep workspace clean/organized; document measurements and interventions in real time.

Qualifications

  • 1+ year lab experience with rodent research (bench + in vivo exposure preferred).
  • Strong attention to detail and organization; reliable execution under time pressure.
  • Ability to track multiple data streams simultaneously and communicate clearly during live procedures.
  • Ability to stay fully alert and effective during evening/late-night shifts.

What You’ll Get

  • Direct exposure to real-world biotech operations in a high-stakes experimental setting.
  • Hands-on experience supporting live perfusion procedures and day-to-day lab operations.
  • Close collaboration with scientists, engineers, and operations leaders.
  • Mentorship and learning across functions in an early-stage biotech environment.
