Why this role is unique

This isn’t a desk‑only HSE role! This is a true hybrid position, where you’ll partner with senior leaders to shape and embed HSE strategy—and work alongside crews in the field to ensure risks are identified, understood, and controlled.

You’ll be the trusted HSE leader for your Line of Business: guiding, coaching, challenging, investigating, and influencing. You’ll help create a learning‑led, risk‑based culture where people feel supported, safe, and confident to speak up.

If you enjoy variety, visibility, and meaningful impact—this is your role.

What you’ll be doing;

Strategic Partnership & Leadership

  • Partner with senior operational leaders to embed the AusNet HSE strategy.
  • Strengthen safety leadership capability across teams and supervisors.
  • Translate strategy into practical, fit‑for‑purpose solutions that improve performance.

Critical Risk & Assurance

  • Drive the critical risk program, including planning, verifying, and reviewing controls.
  • Lead and support high‑risk incident investigations and ensure meaningful learnings land.
  • Conduct field assurance, permit audits, and compliance checks aligned to ISO standards.

Culture, Coaching & Learning

  • Foster a learning‑led safety culture built on engagement, curiosity and accountability.
  • Coach leaders to improve risk ownership and safety decision‑making.
  • Facilitate learning reviews and after‑action conversations.

Delivery Partner Engagement

  • Strengthen alignment with delivery partners on risk, assurance, and safety frameworks.
  • Support capability uplift for contractors and build strong, collaborative relationships.

Governance & Insights

  • Turn data into insights—supporting reports and recommendations for leadership forums.
  • Influence safety investments, contractor decisions, and improvement priorities.

About you

You don’t need to tick every box—but you’ll bring most of the following:

  • Cert IV in WHS (minimum); Diploma/Masters in WHS highly regarded.
  • Strong experience partnering with operational leaders in complex environments.
  • Advanced incident investigation and root cause analysis capability.
  • Deep understanding of critical risk management and assurance verification.
  • Ability to coach, influence and build trust with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Knowledge of ISO 45001 and relevant regulatory frameworks.
  • Strong analytical, communication and report‑writing skills.
  • A Victorian White Card, valid driver’s licence, and willingness to travel (~40%).

A real place to belong.
