Summary:
The HSE Supervisor – Manufacturing is responsible for the day-to-day implementation, monitoring, and enforcement of Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) programs within Voith Hydro’s manufacturing operations.
This role supports the HSE Manager – Manufacturing & Sustainability by ensuring compliance with OSHA, environmental regulations, and internal HSE standards, while actively promoting a culture of safety and environmental responsibility across the facility. The position requires strong field presence, technical understanding, and the ability to engage employees at all levels to drive safe and compliant operations.
Responsibilities:
HSE Program Execution & Compliance
- Support implementation and maintenance of HSE programs, policies, and procedures aligned with regulatory and corporate requirements.
- Monitor compliance with OSHA, environmental regulations, and internal standards through routine inspections and audits.
- Assist in maintaining HSE documentation, records, and reporting systems.
Manufacturing Safety Support
- Conduct routine compliance inspections to identify hazards and verify safe work practices.
- Support high-risk manufacturing activities, including:
- Fabrication and welding
- Material handling and lifting operations
- Electrical and machine safety
- Partner with manufacturing supervisors, safety committee members, safety champions and union craft to implement corrective actions and improve safety performance.
Environmental Compliance & Waste Management
- Support environmental programs related to:
- Hazardous and non-hazardous waste management
- Waste segregation, storage, labeling, and disposal compliance
- Ensure adherence to site requirements aligned with federal, state, and local regulations governing waste and environmental protection.
- Assist with environmental monitoring activities and regulatory reporting requirements as directed.
Incident Investigation & Corrective Actions
- Participate in incident investigations, including:
- Fact finding
- Root cause analysis
- Development of corrective and preventive actions
- Track and support closure of corrective actions to ensure accountability and prevent recurrence.
Training & Workforce Engagement
- Support delivery of HSE training programs, including:
- New hire orientation (8x8x8)
- Task-specific safety training
- Annual compliance and refresher training, as well as safety talks
- Promote a culture of safety awareness, employee engagement, and accountability.
- Reinforce core HSE programs including, but not limited to:
- Voith Hydro’s Eight (8) Life Saving Rules
Emergency Preparedness & Response
- Support development and maintenance of emergency response and environmental protection procedures.
- Participate in drills and ensure readiness for incidents, spills, or regulatory inspections.
Continuous Improvement & HSE Culture
- Identify opportunities to improve safety conditions, environmental performance, and program effectiveness.
- Support Behavior-Based Safety / Risk Tolerance, Hazard Recognition and continuous improvement initiatives.
Requirements:
Education & Certifications
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field. Five (5) years’ additional experience coordinating and specializing in HSE programs in construction, manufacturing, or heavy industrial may meet this requirement.
Preferred certifications:
- ASP (Associate Safety Professional)
- OSHA 501 (General Industry OSHA Outreach Trainer)
Experience
- Minimum 3–5 years of HSE experience, preferably in manufacturing or industrial environments
Experience supporting:
- HSE compliance programs
- Inspections, audits, and incident investigations
- Risk Assessment
Technical Knowledge
- Working knowledge of:
- OSHA General Industry requirements
- Environmental regulations and waste management practices
Familiarity with:
- Hazardous materials handling and disposal
- Industrial hygiene basics
- Environmental compliance programs
Leadership & Competencies
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to engage frontline employees
- Ability to influence safe behaviors and enforce compliance standards
