SES is offering a 6 month onsite internship in Kockelscheuer, Luxembourg for an Intern – Manufacturing Engineering (Product). The role bridges design and manufacturing by applying Design for Manufacturing (DFM) to satellite hardware and supporting process development, documentation and cross functional reviews in a high reliability aerospace environment. You’ll help translate product definitions into producible layouts, maintain process flows and work instructions, participate in design reviews, and assist with validation and tooling readiness while upholding safety and quality standards. Ideal candidates are pursuing or have completed a degree in Mechanical, Industrial or Aerospace Engineering, with a genuine interest in product industrialization, DFM and manufacturing processes, plus Excel and ideally PLM/MES/ERP familiarity, strong English communication, and a proactive, collaborative mindset to work onsite. Tips for applying: tailor your resume to show DFM driven projects and shopfloor or lab experience, quantify impact, highlight cross functional teamwork and process documentation skills, and demonstrate willingness to work in controlled environments and on a six month project.
Intern - Manufacturing Engineering, Product
Location & Work Type: Kockelscheuer, Luxembourg (Onsite)
Contract Type: Internship – 6 months
ROLE DESCRIPTION
As an Intern – Manufacturing Engineering (Product), you will support the interface between product design and manufacturing by contributing to the definition, optimization, and validation of designs for satellite production, assembly, integration, and testing.
Working closely with design and process engineering teams, you will gain hands-on experience in applying Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principles to ensure that complex aerospace hardware is producible, cost-efficient, and scalable without compromising safety or quality.
This internship provides practical exposure to product industrialization, process development, and cross-functional collaboration within a high-reliability aerospace manufacturing environment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the guidance of manufacturing and product engineers, you will:
Support the integration of DFM principles into product development by collaborating with design engineers during early design phases
Assist in bridging design and manufacturing requirements, ensuring product definitions are aligned with production capabilities
Support the development and documentation of manufacturing processes for production, assembly, integration, and test activities
Contribute to the creation and maintenance of process flows, routings, and work instructions, ensuring alignment with product definition and design intent
Help review engineering designs with a manufacturability perspective (tolerances, materials, assembly sequence, tooling needs)
Assist in preparing and updating manufacturing documentation to ensure clarity, accuracy, and usability on the shopfloor
Support process validation and industrialization activities, including data collection, analysis, and reporting
Participate in evaluating tooling, equipment, and production setups to ensure readiness for new or updated product designs
Collaborate in cross-functional design reviews with product, process, quality, and production teams
Support troubleshooting of design- and process-related issues, contributing to root cause analysis and corrective actions
Help ensure compliance with safety, quality, and manufacturing standards (e.g., ESD, cleanroom practices)
Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives focused on product manufacturability, process efficiency, and repeatability
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
Currently pursuing or recently completed a Bachelor’s or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field
Strong interest in product industrialization, DFM, and manufacturing engineering within a technical environment
Basic understanding of manufacturing processes, product development lifecycle, or industrial engineering concepts is a plus
Familiarity with Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint); exposure to PLM, MES, or ERP systems is an advantage
Analytical and structured approach to problem-solving with attention to detail
Good written and verbal communication skills in English
Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary, cross-functional environment
Proactive mindset with a willingness to learn and take initiative
OTHER KEY REQUIREMENTS
Willingness to work on-site in production and engineering environments
Interest in working in controlled environments (e.g., cleanroom, ESD-protected areas) is an advantage
Basic awareness of product quality, manufacturing constraints, and safety standards is a plus
