Skydio is looking for a hands-on Lab Technician in Zurich to support prototype builds, hardware testing, lab operations, and cross-site engineering. Bring a broad practical skillset across prototype fabrication, electrical testing, soldering and rework, cable harnessing, debugging, and light software or scripting, with the ability to switch between mechanical, electrical and software tasks. You will own hands-on support for Zurich prototype systems and travel regularly to California HQ, with occasional trips to Finland, potentially up to 40-50% travel. To stand out, highlight drone or robotics projects, 3D CAD and printing, logs and scripts, and tuning vehicle parameters. Emphasize travel readiness, Swiss base or willingness to relocate, and cross-site collaboration.
Skydio is the leading US drone company and the world leader in autonomous flight, the key technology for the future of drones and aerial mobility. The Skydio team combines deep expertise in artificial intelligence, best-in-class hardware and software product development, operational excellence, and customer obsession to empower a broader, more diverse audience of drone users, from utility inspectors to first responders, soldiers in battlefield scenarios, and beyond.
About the Role:
We are looking for a highly hands-on Lab Technician based in Zurich to support prototype builds, hardware testing, lab operations, and cross-site engineering work. This role is for someone with a broad practical skillset across prototype fabrication, electrical testing, soldering/rework, cable harnessing, prototype debugging, and light software or scripting. You might spend one day designing and fabricating a fixture, reworking a connector, debugging a test setup, modifying a script, organizing prototype inventory, and helping an engineer bring up hardware. You will own hands-on support for prototype systems in Zurich and travel regularly to our California HQ, with occasional travel to Finland, to support builds and testing across teams.
How You’ll Make an Impact:
Support prototype builds, testing, debugging, and lab operations in Zurich.
Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair prototype hardware
Perform mechanical assembly, soldering, wiring, cable harnessing, board inspection, basic rework, and electrical debug.
Write or modify simple scripts, config files or firmware parameters to support bring-up, testing, and troubleshooting of prototype vehicles.
Regularly travel to California HQ to support early builds, learn new hardware, and transfer build/test knowledge back to Zurich.
Periodically travel to Finland to support camera test and lab-related work with the local engineering team.
What Makes You a Good Fit:
Broad hands-on experience with drones, robotics, camera systems, test rigs, or similar electromechanical hardware.
Comfort working across mechanical, electrical, software and testing domains.
Practical electrical skills including surface mount soldering, wiring, harness assembly and basic debugging.
Comfort with software including scripting, modifying test code, reading logs, changing configuration files and tuning vehicle control parameters.
Strong troubleshooting instincts and the ability to make progress on ambiguous prototype issues across multiple domains.
Experience with 3D CAD, 3D printing and shop tools is a plus.
Based in or willing to be based in Switzerland, with openness to frequent travel, potentially up to 40-50%, primarily to California and occasionally to Finland.
