Worley seeks a Lead Mechanical Engineer to own the mechanical scope on complex projects based in Calgary, working onsite full time. PURPOSE
The Lead Mechanical Engineer provides technical leadership and project delivery oversight for mechanical engineering services to Worley and its customers. This role blends deep mechanical engineering expertise with strong team leadership, cross-discipline coordination, and accountability for quality, schedule, and budget performance across assigned projects.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Project & Technical Leadership
Lead mechanical engineering scope on assigned projects, ensuring deliverables meet Worley, client, and regulatory requirements.
Own the mechanical engineering scope, schedule, and quality for assigned projects or project areas.
Provide technical leadership and direction through all project phases including feasibility, FEED, detailed design, procurement, construction, and commissioning.
Define and manage mechanical scope in alignment with project execution plans and change management processes.
Participate in project meetings, design reviews, constructability reviews, and client engagements.
Provide technical input to procurement activities including equipment specifications, requisitions, bid evaluations, vendor technical evaluations, and purchase order reviews.
Identify and manage technical risks and execution challenges, proposing practical, cost-effective engineering solutions in collaboration with the project team.
Team Leadership & Coordination
Lead, coordinate, and mentor mechanical engineers, designers, and discipline specialists assigned to projects.
Define work packages, assign resources, and manage workload distribution across the mechanical team, including workshare where appropriate.
Provide coaching, technical oversight, and performance feedback to team members to ensure high-quality delivery.
Support the professional development of junior and intermediate mechanical engineers through mentoring and technical guidance.
Foster a collaborative, high-performance team culture focused on safety, quality, and delivery excellence.
Quality, Safety & Compliance
Ensure all mechanical engineering deliverables comply with Worley standards, client specifications, and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements.
Ensure compliance with project quality management systems, checking procedures, and document control processes.
Promote and actively uphold Worley’s safety culture and values throughout all project activities.
Client & Stakeholder Engagement
Act as a primary mechanical engineering interface with clients, project managers, vendors, and multidisciplinary teams.
Support resolution of technical queries, scope clarifications, and interface issues between Worley and client teams.
Communicate effectively with internal stakeholders to ensure alignment of scope, priorities, resourcing, and execution strategies.
Continuous Improvement & Technical Excellence
Maintain awareness of emerging technologies, best practices, and innovations in mechanical engineering and equipment design.
Contribute to continuous improvement of engineering standards, tools, workflows, and execution methodologies.
Support knowledge sharing, lessons learned, and technical community initiatives within Worley’s Mechanical Engineering team.
QUALIFICATIONS
Technical & Industry Experience
Strong technical expertise and subject matter knowledge in one or more of the following project types:
Oil & Gas (Upstream, Midstream, Downstream)
SAGD / Oilsands Facilities
Mining, Metals & Minerals
Cogeneration / Gas-to-Power
Energy Transition / Industrial Facilities
Proven ability to lead mechanical engineering scope on complex, multidisciplinary projects.
Strong understanding of mechanical engineering fundamentals including rotating equipment, static equipment, piping interfaces, materials, and equipment specifications.
Working knowledge of applicable local and international codes and standards (e.g., ASME, API, CSA, ISO).
Competent in MS Office Suite and relevant mechanical engineering design and calculation tools.
Demonstrated experience delivering high-quality technical work within schedule and budget constraints.
Leadership & Professional Skills
Demonstrated experience leading technical teams within a project delivery environment.
Strong communication, interpersonal, and stakeholder management skills.
Ability to balance technical excellence with practical, delivery-focused decision-making.
Previous supervisory, discipline lead, or technical authority experience preferred.
Education, Qualifications, Accreditation, Training
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent discipline.
Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation (or eligibility / active pursuit in accordance with internal requirements).
