Thoughtworks is seeking a German-qualified in-house Legal Counsel to support European client demand teams, draft and negotiate IT and services agreements, and bring 3-5 years post-qualification experience in contract and IT law. This full-time role is remote within Europe, ideally from Spain, the Netherlands, Romania or the UK, with hybrid options. You will partner with cross-border teams, manage a busy workload, and demonstrate service orientation, ambiguity tolerance, proactive communication, resilience, teamwork and ownership. Fluent German and English (C2) are essential, as is in-house transactional experience and exposure to EU or German regulatory law. Do you want to work in an informal environment that values people over process?  We are looking for a self-motivated lawyer who brings a pragmatic, business partner approach to legal advice. 

In particular, you will be responsible for supporting our client demand teams based in Germany and other European markets as you draft, review, and negotiate client agreements for our services and products. Your ability to prioritise demands and skilfully handle a busy workload of client agreements is essential.

Currently, we operate as a remote team in Europe. This role will ideally work remotely from Spain/Netherlands/Romania/UK.

Job qualifications

Technical Skills

  • Be qualified in Germany and admitted to practice law in Germany with approximately 3-5 years of post-qualification experience and a focus on contract law and IT law.
  • Some experience with EU and/or German regulatory law is helpful and desirable.
  • Have experience supporting business units throughout Europe (strongly preferred).
  • Have extensive transactional experience with an in-house legal department of a professional services or technology firm negotiating commercial agreements with clientsHave excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.

Professional Skills

  • Possess fluency in speaking, writing and editing legal documents in German (C2) and English (C2).
  • Exhibit solid analytical and business judgment skills.
  • Have an ability to: work well with others, prioritize, manage time and deadline driven workload and work well under pressure, work independently and make sound decisions, manage complex assignments, and handle confidential matters.
