About us:
Orbit Marketing is an established marketing agency bringing some of the world's best-loved drinks brands to life across New Zealand's liquor stores and supermarkets. We specialise in in-store alcohol sampling and tastings—creating genuine moments that help shoppers discover their next favourite drop. Our Queenstown Lakes team works across leading off-licence chains including Super Liquor and Liquorland.
About the role:
We're looking for drinks-loving people to run sampling and tasting stations across Queenstown liquor stores and supermarkets. You'll set up in-store, pour measured tasters, share what makes a drop worth taking home, and help curious shoppers discover something new for the weekend.
No campaign looks the same—the brands and the stores keep it interesting. To give you a sense of the variety: in a month alone, our team will be running RTD tastings in Liquorland one day, and pouring Southern Alps across Super Liquor and supermarket stores the next. Different brands, different stores, same goal—turning a taste into a sale.
Because that's the heart of the job: you're not just handing out samples, you're selling. Every taster is your opening to talk a shopper into taking a bottle/box home—reading who's up for a chat, matching the drop to what they're after, and closing the moment while they're standing right in front of you. The best in our team treat every shift like a target to beat, and the sales they drive are exactly what we report back to the brands.
A shift might involve pouring chilled tasters into sampling cups, sharing tasting notes, and turning "just looking" into "I'll grab two." Whatever you're pouring, you'll keep your station clean, inviting and running responsibly throughout—always promoting the product with good judgement and a host-responsibility mindset.
Shifts:
Mostly Thursday to Sunday, with the flexibility to choose your own availability. You're not obligated to work all days—but the more available you are, the more we can prioritise you across campaigns. Tastings typically run during peak shopping hours—late morning through early afternoon on weekends, and mid-afternoon to early evening on weekdays.
This role suits you if you:
Enjoy drinks and love talking about them with shoppers
Have a sales-minded approach—you make every taster an opportunity to turn a shopper into a buyer, and you're motivated to hit targets
Are warm, approachable, and happy to start conversations with shoppers
Have hospitality, bar, barista, liquor retail, events or promotions experience (any of these is a great fit, and none are essential—we train you!)
Promote alcohol responsibly—confident using good judgement, checking ID where needed, and knowing when not to pour
Take pride in a tidy, well-run workstation
Can stand for the length of a shift and carry sampling equipment to and from your car
Practical requirements:
18 years or over (required to serve and sample alcohol)
Access to a vehicle and a current New Zealand Driver's licence (you'll transport sampling kit between stores)
Eligible to work in New Zealand
Available weekends (Saturday and Sunday are our busiest days)
Comfortable promoting alcohol responsibly and following host-responsibility practices
Well-presented and happy to wear branded uniform
What we offer:
Competitive hourly rate
Paid training across sampling, product knowledge, and responsible service of alcohol
Real variety—from exciting new products to classic old favourites
A supportive team and a genuinely fun environment
Flexible shifts that work around study, family, or another job
Tell us when you apply:
If you love sharing great drinks with Queenstown shoppers—and doing it responsibly—we'd love to hear from you. Submit your expression of interest to our Recruitment Manager and tell us a bit about yourself. We look forward to connecting with you soon.
