Reporting to the Manager Locomotive Contract Maintenance, the Locomotive Fleet Engineer supports Pacific National's locomotive fleet performance, reliability and improvement through engineering lead solutions and fostering a proactive reliability culture. The role can be based in Victoria or NSW.

This role will initially focus on the new 94 Class locomotives as they enter service and will manage the OEM and maintenance provider as it relates to the defect liability and warranty obligations applicable under the locomotive supply agreement.

Additionally, the role will provide technical leadership and expertise in maintenance improvement and reliability engineering principles, through the development and utilisation of appropriate standards, procedures, and processes.

The Locomotive Fleet Engineer also supports the operational and maintenance governance as required in execution of Locomotive Maintenance Agreements (LMA's) to provide safety, reliability and/or productivity improvements.

 What You'll Do:

  • Manage defect liability and warranty obligations for the new fleet of 94 Class locomotives post-delivery and entry into service
  • Lead the development and execution of reliability improvement strategies for the locomotive fleets while overseeing the implementation of predictive and preventative maintenance programs to minimize locomotive downtime
  • Ensue technical compliance with regulatory, safety (including PN Safety Management System), and environmental standards in all maintenance and reliability activities
  • Provide technical expertise with respect to reliability and contract KPI aspects of Locomotive Maintenance Agreements
  • Drive innovation by adopting emerging technologies and industry best practice to enhance maintenance and reliability strategies
  • Lead cross functional projects from conception, through feasibility & proof of concept, technical specification, system integration, testing and implementation support for new technology to support PN Strategies, managing to budget and schedule
  • Perform data and financial analysis to support maintenance management programs, strategic transformational objectives and project execution
  • Support audits / investigations relevant to locomotive maintenance to support contractor management or defect identification and elimination through maintenance practices "rollingstock health analysis / investigation of complex critical equipment issues
  • Prepare and deliver technical evaluations & due diligence briefings to senior management for projects and process improvement associated with locomotive maintenance and improvement value identification.

What You'll Bring:

  • Tertiary qualification in engineering or equivalent
  • 5 + years' experience working in the Rail, Mining or other asset intensive industries
  • Demonstrated broad experience in the understanding and application of locomotive maintenance including operational and maintenance cycle value
  • Strong track record in reliability engineering fundamentals
  • Strong track record of defining and leading a strategic approach towards the application of technical expertise in an engineering environment in a governance framework structured organisation
  • The ability to communicate effectively with senior level stakeholders, suppliers, regulatory bodies, and industry associations and constructively influence decisions and outcomes
  • Provides consistent outstanding behaviour in relation to safety practices with a deep understanding of the importance of safety.
