As a MIST volunteer you will assist with logistics, welfare, communications, safety and potentially lead a small team, keeping operations running smoothly behind the scenes. Key requirements include a current NZ Class 1 driver’s licence, First Aid certificate level 2 (training provided if needed), monthly training, and availability to deploy within 30 minutes of activation. We are looking for friendly, practical, non-clinical people to join our Major Incident Support Teams throughout New Zealand. As a MIST member, you will assist our ambulance crews and communities in a variety of ways depending on the situation. You might be helping to lift a patient, setting up at a music festival or providing support during anything from a local emergency to a national disaster. Whether it’s a planned event or an unexpected crisis, you will be part of the essential support crew working behind the scenes to keep ambulance operations running smoothly and making a real difference in your community.
Responsibilities – As a MIST member your key tasks may include, but are not limited to:
Training – All new MIST members complete an initial foundation course, which includes an induction to HHSJ, operational risk management principles and driving training. This ensures you are well-prepared to operate vehicles and equipment confidently and safely in emergency environments.
